George has had loads of urine infections, he has a catheter, started him on pure cranberry juice, touch wood he had not had an infection for a while, mix the cranberry juice with fizzy water, really good. Urine infections normally brings them down, he will pick up soon xxxx

Lemon barley water is also good for water infections x

Barley water helped my dad with UTI (just this thing not with PSP ofcourse).

Boil a handful of barley, leave it on the stove in low heat like you do with tea. Strain and use the water in place of other fluids. We reuse the barley for around 2-3 days.

It seems to be quite common with PSP sufferers to have recurrent UTIs. P has had several, some really quite severe and they can have a dramatic effect, causing strange and confused behaviour. Usually antibiotics clear the infection but giving cranberry juice etc as a preventative is a good idea.

It might be a good idea to have him rechecked with blood work as soon as possible. When my husband, who has PSP & CBD with Parkinsonism) had a UTI with fever, decline with severe confusion and unable to sit up, I asked his longterm care to arrange for transport take him to the ER where they diagnosed Sepsis. It was a scary experience for both of us as he was fading fast in the ER. Thankfully, he was swiftly admitted for 3 days of IV heavy duty antibiotics, then had a long recuperation and was on Hospice care for three months. He was released due to improvement and wow he is continuing on the sad gradual decline these devastating diseases bring. We continue to seize each day with great gratitude. Hope this helps and your husband feels better very soon. BHill46

My mum couldn't take cranberry juice as she is a diabetic so we started her on cranberry tablets (concentrated form) from Holland & Barratt. We also try and maintain her fluid intake and record it because she has a catheter. UTIs will always cause a steep drop. My mum had a UTI and went from walking with the aid of a walker and eating herself to being fed and in a wheelchair, she never went back to how she was. Preventative action is always the best measure.
