My dad has being prescribed Domperizone and Simemet medication to help relieve stiffness. Apparently these drugs are for Parkinson's. Our Dr thinks it might help. Does anyone else take them and if so do they help?

Medication for PSP
We've tried both, but went off of it because there were no apparent or lasting effects....So if he does take it...it may seem to help especially if he has very new to PSP....But remember it's for Parkinson's not for it's nasty little cousin, PSP.

Sinemet but not the other one. I thought C's speech improved a bit but not for long. We were warned of long term side effects and the neurologist said it wasn't worth taking. They may work better for your dad though.

I think some people have found some beneficial effects from Sinemet but D took it for a year after diagnosis with no apparent benefit so we agreed with GP and neurologist to stop it. We didn't notice any difference either on or off it. I do think it can have unwanted side effects if taken long term. I think the domperidone is prescribed to counteract the nausea caused by the Sinemet when first taken. The domperidone shouldn't be needed after a few weeks.

Chris takes Sinemet. He thinks it helps. I'm not sure but he is certainly most stiff first thing in the morning.

Thank you x
Dale took Sinimet. Didn't make any difference. So we stopped it. You can only try I guess
M went on Sinemet to help with mood not stiffness, it helped and its equivalent Madopar (soluble for PEG) still used after 4 yrs tried taking M off it but she rapidly lost attention and drifted into apathy, on reintroduction she perks up, loosing its affect but still think it helps.
The only prescriptions my aunt takes is the sinement and she also takes meripex she has PSP for about 14 years she is still all there in the head knows every thing thats going on she take it for the shakes in her right hand and sinement to produce dopmine and help with trimmers. She also takes Paxil small dose once in a while for depression yes they are for parkinsons but up until 2 years ago they tried to say that is what she has .

Hi POgie, my brother was on that, his Doctor told my sis if there was no change in his stiffness to stop taking it, as it is for Parkinson's sometimes Doctors will do that give them medication that is not for PSP, as we all know not much of medication will help. Hopefully over the counter will help your dad, I use a rub on my brother that seems to. Help him. Nettie
