More tears!

Keith has just left home in the back of a taxi in his wheelchair for his first visit alone to the the hospice and I'm crying again! He looked so alone sat there and I just wanted to hug him, I'm not sure whether I should be shouting "Who hoo! Some time to myself!" or crying in a big heap, I feel really confused 😒

Oh Pat I am sure he will like it there, George goes to a day centre, twice a week and I felt the same, but he loves it, and I am sure Keith will, the children say he is glad to have his own space a couple of times a week, and to get away from me, not sure if they are joking Yvonne xxxx Pat enjoy your day xxxxxx

A natural reaction Pat, I had to sit in my car as I was crying so much I couldn't drive, but it will get easier. I likened it to leaving children at playgroup and primary school for the first time, the day they went to uni or left home, even leaving our well loved dog in kennels for the first time. Colin goes quite happily now. He can't join in with all the activities but he falls asleep having reflexology every week, enjoys the "Gathering" , an optional religious service, the patting dogs who make regular visits and just listening to others talking instead of just me. I'm sure you will soon get to value your time off and look forward to Thursdays.

Hi Pat, Come on, dry those tears. This day is for you as well. I do hope you have managed to do something with it! Of course Keith looked alone in the taxi, but I bet he was thinking, great a day to myself, no nagging wife telling me what I can and can't do. Well, I KNOW that's what S thought!!!!!! Like NannaB has said, it like it was when the kids were small, they had stopped crying long before you had reached the door, but us Mums, spent the next couple of hours sobbing and worrying!!!

If you didn't manage to get out today, promise me, you will make better plans for next week!!! These days are very precious, for both of you. A few hours apart, restore both of you.

So come on, I want to hear the "Who hoo!!!" Here in South Africa!!!

Lots of love

Totally normal reaction lovely Pat! Dad and I were really apprehensive about Mum going to the Hospice at first especially as she told us she didn't want to go and she was going to hate it!

Well, she now goes off quite happily and even tells me she's looking forward to going!

It's a big step for both of you but it can only benefit you both in the long run. With some "time for you" to rest or get things done without the worry of caring for Keith, you will be able to look after him and yourself much better in the long run.

It will get easier, we know.

Sending much love xx

Hi Heady,

Well I managed it, got that long awaited haircut and am now sitting in the garden with that vodka and coke I promised myself! Keith is due home in about half an hour and I have missed him, I feel very lost without him! But the weather is beautiful today, blue sky and lots of sunshine so I feel a little recharged and ready to face the rest of the day. Hopefully it will be a little easier next time and I can relax more, so I can manage that "Who hoo!" Although it may be a little half hearted, hope you can hear it!

Love to you and S....Pat xx

Hi Pat, hope you got my previous post! Sorry, but your "who hoo" wasn't quite loud enough. Keep practicing! Maybe next week. But, haircut and a V & C on the first day, most impressed!!! Keep it up!

Lots of love
