Who looks after the Carers?

Hi, having a good lesson about how we must look after ourselves! My step father has been rushed into hospital and my sister has been looking after our mother, who has Alzheimers, plus lots of other family problems. I now have Mum here with me.

Watching my sister get so tired in just a few days is frightening! We are in contact with social services etc., so help will be coming our way very soon.

I know the first initial shock of caring is very tiring, but honestly folks, if we all look like my sister, don't get me wrong, she is coping incredibly well, (trained nurse) we all must learn to accept every bit of help we can!

I am the worlds worst! Thought I could do it all. But this is teaching me that I can't and I must take far better care of myself than I have been doing. I am afraid, that most of us on this site are all guilty of this.

Please, please, everyone, look at what you are doing very carefully. Part of my step father's problem, was he couldn't cope with Mum but did not admit it. Now, a hard suitation, is a crisis and all our lives are going to be changed.

Our loved ones need us. They have lost far too much of their lives already. By not looking after ourselves, they risk losing us as well!

This is one battle that PSP can't and shouldnt win, because it is in our control!!!

Lots of love

Oh heady I am glad you have said about accepting help. Since Brian has been in hospital I have realised how much I do for him and how tired I have become. So after 3 days of them trying to get me to agree to haveing carers comeing in I have said yes. Now all the paperwork is signed they said he might be able to come out tomorrow up untill then it was end of this week possible even onto a rehab ward. So yes I have realised that I need to look after me so I can look after him and also realise that I do need help. Janexx
