You could contact your local social services and ask for an Occupational Therapy assessment, as maybe they could look into provision of a Disabled Facilities Grant for you? This is means tested, but you would not be excluded for paying rent in full, however, they would take into account any saving you have as well as any income (such as pensions). For more info go to gov.uk and search for 'disabled facilities grant'

Good luck

I am having to move house as I can get no financial help at all towards a wet room conversion in the garage . We get no benefits as such only attendance allowance . We both get full state pension and have no mortgage, savings under a thousand now and my husband has modest works pension from working in a factory. So now we are just waiting to sign contract on a bungalow. It's been a massive upheaval leaving the family home of 35 years, not to mention the stress and having to go to a completely new area where we could afford a bungalow. I had to do all the viewings on my own, and all the packing. We are supposed to be rich enough to fund the first £25000 ourselves.

Too late for us now but I do hope you get some help from somewhere, together with coping with the illness it's fight fight fight all the way . My best wishes to you as we all travel this road x
