I'm 70, husband is 59 together over 30 years. Both diagnosed with postage cancer with in a week of each other in July of 2017. My psa at that time was 4.2 went thereo 7.4 his started at 2.6 went to 5.8 both had biopsies and then discussed options for treatments with urologist, radiologists and oncologists. Thankfully joined this group and through such amazing compassion and advice looked into four different treatments and we choose cyberknife. Five treatment later, no long term effects and our numbers have slowly come down. In Jan. 2020 his was 2.5 mine 1.5. Until his last PS A test last week. Showed up Jan. 18, 2022 as 11.3. we usually abstain from any sexual activity for several days prior to having blood drawn for our PS A test. The day before was quite a romantic, sexually charged day for us. He went for a different test and they suggested he do the PS A work up done while he was at the lab. Without thinking about our sex escapades the day before he was tested and the result was 11.3? ? ? Urologist wants to see us this week and we want to demand a retest before anything else is discussed. Here is how his tests have read since the cyberknife.7/24/17, 55 years old 2.6, 1/31/19, 4.5, 3/19/19, 5, May 9/19 biopsy, 6/4/19, 5.8, 8/19/19, 4.1, May 2020 biopsy, 3/16/2020, 4.7, Oct. 20, 2020 Cyberknife, 1/12/2020, 2.9, 6/4/21, 2.5, 11/2/21, 3.8, and this week Jan.18, 2022, 11.3. Would appreciate any comments and advice on our concerns. Thank you. He well, stay safe.

Could be prostatitis - any history of it?

Thank you Tall_Allen. Your prompt responses and knowledge base is always so welcome. Gives us options to be discussed with our doctors and be proactive in our medical decisions. Will research Prostatitis and have other questions suggestioned by members who responded to ask my husbands urologist tomorrow.

Definitely get a second test. The result might be rightIt might be a bad test and they lab might have made a mistake.

I am amazed at people who succumb to biopsies based on one test

Second opinions and second tests are gold

I hope you have good news good luck with it.

I had a bad test and cancelled my Drs appointment so I could have a second test, which came back normal. My new Drs appointment did not require needle threading tests.

Thank you Zigzagzig for your suggestions. Very true on all accounts. Tall_Allen also suggested Prostatitis a bacterial infection of which my husband has no symptoms at this time. Researched this and you can be asymptomatic . We'll have much to discuss with our urologist tomorrow. We're hoping it was the sex prior to the PSA test which we know can jump the results.

I think Tall- Allen may be onto something.I am susceptible to prostatitis, I have always suspected it causes low grade inflammation

And is responsible for more than prostatitis - you never read that though.

I don’t think it’s a natural state and possible carcinogenic.

It’s hard for me to accept nature made everything in men and women so well except the prostate. I believe we have a cofactor bacteria they have not fingered yet.

In me it presents as urgency, frequency and drips. After I take an antibiotic for 10 days p, 3 weeks later I am like a 30 year old. No urgency, no dripping no running to the bathroom. I can go out and not pee first it no longer is in my mind.

They never find anything in my tests. But if I leave the symptoms go on it will develope into full scale burning if I pee. So it’s prostatitus. I last needed antibiotics 5 months ago. And have been great since.

It never seems to effect my PSA. I suspect my PSA goes up after sex.

I try not to have that kind of sex for 1O days before a test.

I have not had prostate cancer. I think it’s important all men know all this stuff that’s why I read this site. If the odds are so high I don’t want to find it all a mystery., if I end up there.

Knowledge is power, perhaps I do not have the righty o say anything on the site. Some stories are heartbreaking.

Much success tomorrow

So the remarks from our urologist about my husbands psa jumping to over 11 due to sex the day before he was tested and or could it be prostatitis. His reply, doubtful. The prostate is dead after all the radiation?? ?You can't get prostatitis in a dead prostate???? Maybe cyberknife wasn't as accurate. Ordered a Pet scan. $$$$$$ and another PSA test.

Any stimulation of the prostate can definitely elevate PSA on a test. I had a PSA test without thinking that I had just self catheterized. It was quite high and went back to " normal" range on the next test. I did not see any mention of Gleason scale from biopsy.

Thank you Spencoid2. We see our urologist today. We are going to request that the doctor orders another psa test before a biopsy is done on my husband.
