Constipation issue following RP

Just home from the hospital after having a RP on August 15. All went well and recovery is well on its way except for constipation issue. I would be interested in knowing of laxative regimes that have worked for other men. The stool softeners that I am on are not working to this point. Thanks for any info.

They use to have a concoction of something like the brown bomb. Anyone recollect?

Maybe try mirilax unless someone remembers the bomb ;)

Good luck.

I use Movical and have done for many years as I suffer from constipation for a long time. Normally I take two per day, one morning & evening. After surgery I increased it to four, two morning & two evening for a week. Moving to three for a week and back to two. I worked to keep everything very soft and I didn’t have any strain particularly while the catheter was in. Hope this helps. Important to drink plenty of water while doing it.

I feel like I am swimming in water. Restoralax worked on me last night for my first movement in 4 days. Had a bit of straining with the bowel movement. The sensation of peeing with your catheter in was odd. Thanks for your response.

It’s been 7 years for me, but as I recall, I had to completely empty my bowels the night before surgery. So, there just wasn’t much “stuff” in there for a few days. The bowel prep also got rid of the intestinal microbiotics. You may want to try these. Or at least yogurt with active cultures. Best of luck!!

Thanks for your response. I drink litres of water a day and eat a non-binding diet. My system is touchy though and struggling to reset. Thanks for your response.
