I recently underwent a brand new surgical procedure called nano knife. Dr. Mayank Patel in Encino California, a da Vinci robotic and TULSA pro expert surgeon recommended this procedure after a panel of doctors examined my MRI and CT scans. The procedure was successful and five months post surgery things are looking good.
I wanted to inform everyone of this procedure and also find out if anyone else has had this done. I am looking to share post operative results and recovery experiences..

I hope you have better results than trial reports so far.
• In a study of focal IRE, Murray et al. reported that 4/25 patients (16%) were found to have residual cancer in the ablation zone.
• In another study that used mpMRI to detect residual cancer up to one year after treatment, Gigante et al. reported that 9/30 patients (30%) were found to have residual cancer in the ablation zone.
• Colletini et al reported in-field treatment failures by 18% of low and intermediate-risk patients detected via mpMRI-targeted biopsy after 6 months.
• Valerio et al. reported that 6/34 patients (18%) had residual disease.
• Guenther et al. reported that the recurrence rate at 5 years was 5.6% for Gleason 6, 14.6% for Gleason 7, and 39.5% for Gleason 8–10.
• Gielchinsky and Lev-Cohain reported that 4/13 patients had biopsy-detected recurrence.
• Zhang et al. reported that 6-months after focal IRE, 46% of low- and intermediate-risk cancer still had biopsy-detected cancer outside of the ablation zone and 17% still had cancer inside the ablation zone.
Results are much better with SBRT for all risk levels.
I keep my eye out for studies on ablation therapies. It bothers me that so many urologists oversell it to patients. All the evidence is that it does not work as a treatment for prostate cancer, which is why the FDA refused to approve it. I wish patients would start suing the doctors and hospitals who made those unfounded promises.
Hi Hangln66, Tanks for the info..I am on AS and currently doing my reserach to treament options when and if the need comes, this way I dont have to panic last minute. I have been looking into Nano knife or here in Australia we have Cyber knife which I thin may be the same. Also SBRT. Im definalty not keen on surgery but there is so many tyoes of raditiaion that it reall gets confusing when you dont know much about them.
Im glad things are going well for you and please keep updating so we can see how your tracking.
Nano knife is ablation with a high voltage, low amperage electrical charge, Cyber Knife is a system for applying radiation extremely accurately from an external source. You're right, more than a few types of radiation therapy. Don't overlook brachytherapy. I had Nano Knife treatment a few years ago. It did lower my PSA dramatically, but unfortunately in my case it started to come back up within a few months. We're all different and I wish everyone success in the path they choose.
