While waiting to join a clinical trial my bf got I'll. He stopped eating, had nausea and vomiting , chills , cough and weakness. Concerned about possible pneumonia , I took him to the ER. I explained all the symptoms and informed them about his vaccines. As soon as a hospitalist saw him and diagnosed him with pneumonia, she started taking about discharging him home. I insisted on going to a Rehabilitation unit. Before his transfer, he was tested for COVID and was positive. He was discharged from the hospital right away despite not eating, having protein malnutrition, an ulcer on his heel that was never treated and a myriad of health issues. He was discharged with home health, that never showed up. A week later I took him back as his condition deteriorated. His hemoglobin was down to 6 and he was not eating. Looking back I should not accepted taking him home the first time, some providers assume they can put a bandaid on a cancer patient and send them home without any support, medications or assistive devices. Keep going back until your concerns are addressed. He has received 3 units of blood so far, and we are waiting to correct other issues.
Please remember that even if you trust your family and closed ones they can transmit the virus. Catching this virus was the outcome of removing his mask while sharing a meal with family where 2 members were COVID positive.
Good luck to all of you who keep fighting, don't allow something like this affect your health.
