Hi all not sure if I am in the right group with this. I am 56 have been having blader symptoms for quite a while but have also been suffering with severe left hip pain doc tells me is ostio, Bone doctor thinks it's possibly my back have had mri scan awaiting results have read somewhere that this hip pain can be a symptom of prostate problems.
Thanks for reply my doctor will probably kick me anyway for reading to much on Google ect. Because the bladder has been changing quite a bit over the last 18 months of so.
Listen to your body, but don't narrow the field by trying to self diagnose. Get testing and try to nail down the causation with accurate diagnosis and supporting breathing results from imaging and more. Assumptions don't cut it!
Trying to correlate the two symptoms and neatly putting it in a container may do more game than good. You may have two different things going on all the same. Pain is a problem as it is sometimes difficult to identify the cause. Nerve signaling can signal the pain, but where it's from is problematic... See a urologist and make sure the two symptoms are addressed as separate issues until they're identified. Bladder issues may not be bladder at all, (as noted) and the HIP pain can certainly be emanating from somewhere else. For example, Kidney Stones can be a huge pain provider for sure, just an example. And that pain sometime can feel as if it's at the hip, lower back, lower ribs, etc.
About half of men with BPH develop an enlarged prostate gland, called benign prostatic enlargement (BPE), and among these, about half develop bladder outlet obstruction (BOO).3 BOO and/or changes in smooth muscle tone and resistance that can accompany BPH often result in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).1 LUTS are storage disturbances, such as daytime urinary urgency and nocturia, and/or voiding disturbances, such as urinary hesitancy, weak stream, straining, and prolonged voiding.2 LUTS affect an estimated three percent of men ages 45–49 years old and 30 percent of men over 85 years old.2 Urinary hesitancy, weak stream, and nocturia are the most commonly reported LUTS.4 BPH/LUTS negatively impact quality of life2,3 and cost the United States over $1 billion annually.3[effectivehealthcare.ahrq.go...]
Where the prostate sits it is near a lot of important nerves some of which can have "referred pain" and be felt elsewhere, like in the hip. "Hip" pain may be in the hip joint itself, but some people say hip when they mean the buttocks or the pelvis bones. A big, boggy prostate can also cause backache.
What do you mean by bladder symptoms? Blood in urine? Pain upon urinating? Time to see your urologist. Before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, I had blood upon urination. Had a cystoscopy to discover early stage bladder cancer.
