DEXA is not a bone scan for metastases. It only tells you your bone mineral density. It is similar to a simple x-ray.

Thanks!

Weight bearing exercise often and simple bone nutrients can help . Otherwise we are slated for osteo problems .

Yes, it's good to have a baseline value for your bone density. That will make it easier later on to see if your cancer therapy has deleterious effects on your bone(s).

ADT only? Mono-therapy?

And as noted, typically a baseline scan will be taken to establish a tracking mechanism over time of your bone density as it's loss is a side effect of long term androgen deprivation therapy.

In the future, if subsequent bone scans are performed, try to have it done at the same place, same equipment. I had a 2nd done at a different location and the report totally highlighted that there was no ability to compare results because of the different machines used. I would have assumed this was a given and known to those scheduling me for the test, so it just goes to show, make no assumptions! Just offering that as a suggestion for future use.

Best Regards

yes. ADT will put you at risk for osteopenia (loss of calcium from bones), osteoporosis and fractures. Doctor is getting a baseline from comparison. Important.

Hell yes you do! It’s non evasive and not painful either . You need this to tell how much bone you’re going to lose in treatments .

billy , my mo waited four years for me to go into osteopenia before starting me on prolia . I wish I had started it and nutrients at dx . Once I lost 35% bone density the first four years it can’t not be regained by prolia . Now out of left field my rib is fractured . While on prolia over two years now . Be proactive for osteo and cardio issues that will come . I as under constant uti’s and antibiotics not able to lift more than ten lbs my first two years . I lost it all . Nearly lost my mind too . You’ll do better . 💪😎

Lulu,

Thanks…However, I am sorry to hear about your experience…I had the dexascan on Monday!

This is one of my concerns before planning to go on ADT.

Another one is having Atrial fibrillation…( and others)!

Exactly , eat and live heart healthy . Lose fat if you have it . Daily Exercise is the one and only thing agreed upon to help everything . You can help yourself by being pre emptive at least that is the plan man .. ? Keep rolling

If you’re into nutrition or not? D-3 ,k2, no more than 900 calcium plus day boron magnesium . You can get a complex . These are cheap . Take care

Calcium 900? I take the K2 & D3, but not the others. Interested...

And Billy, keep in mind the new pill form of ADT, Relugolix/Orgovyx has less side effects by study (heart) especially. So please look into this or discuss with your MO if you're in this category.

Best Regards

Some fine fellows over calcify . It’s supposed to be bad for pc. Per my Nat onco . I take Thorne Oscap complex containing magnesium boron and others . I also might be only one here taking strontium . Vital nutrients . All very cheap . After 4 yrs and losing 35% bone density I started the nutrients and prolia and regained 10% . Don’t know if it’s both that is doing this .? Prolia won’t stop djd ..it doesn’t help joints tendons ligaments and bursa which are all depleted IMO by adt and no t after time ..Pc specialist says that prolia won’t reverse bone damage but it hopefully can halt depletion .. ✌️

Man that's crazy and sorry to hear that. I worry about the bone density and I've been low Vit D in my blood draws for a while, like most adults actually. So I take it. Is funny too because even after I began taking it my D levels barely changed. And yes, hope too that for you although it can't reverse things, that it mitigates it going forward!

All the best!

My Nat dr says that practically everyone is d deficient even a well tanned person. D-3 is crucial . ✌️Thanks
