1yr Update Since Diagnostic

So not much to report since a year ago have been doing the “active surveillance “ route have a Gleason 3+3 Last two PSA screenings are 2.4 have not moved. On Uroxatral 10mg and Proscar 5mg. BPH has gotten a lot better. Last biopsy came back negative and MRI was clear.

So my question is can BPH show a false positive for prostate Cancer ? I’m a little confused with what’s going on after reading so many of your stories.

Looking for ideas to ask Urologist.

Thank you

Congratulations on your negative biopsy! That happens to half the men onAS using Proscar. That means there isn't much prostate cancer so it is hard to find on a biopsy - not a false positive, but perhaps an overdiagnosis.

what does proscar do ?

It shrinks the prostate and seems to provide some control for G6 (but not higher grade) cancer.

why would doctors not prescribe proscar for all AS patients with gleason 6 if there health and or side effects would not interfer .. ?

There are sexual side effects in about 20%. It is only given to those who have BPH too.

It's equivocal about suspicion. Not a diagnosis.

so if your last biopsy came back negative do you still consider you having a gleason 6 ?
