Hi 1875,

First of all, congratulations!!

Secondly, it's very normal to feel nervous about telling your boss you are pregnant - we've got some useful information and tips on our website: nct.org.uk/pregnancy/how-do...

Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Thanks very much, thats been a good help, looking at my shifts and annual leave im not going to be working with her again until im just over 9 weeks. im just a bit worried ppl may guess and tell her first. I know that she would hate if she heard from someone else first! Ive got so many question in my head and read so many internet pages over the last few days. Think i just need to chill out a bit and go with the flow x

Hi 1875,

Congratulations!

Definitely hold out until you're ready before telling anyone at work. You can easily justify waiting until your first scan (usually around 12 weeks) before telling anyone - it's perfectly normal to wait until everything is given the 'all good' clearance by medical professionals before telling your employer.

In the meantime, have some ready excuses for declining drink, feeling tired, being uninterested in some or all foods, and possible early tummy changes (been feeling off colour lately, having trouble sleeping, trying to go through a 'healthy' stage and can't believe the bloating it's caused - must be some detox! etc etc). Down the track, people will understand if you were just being cautious through the early stages.

All the best
