Hey Everyone

Has anyone tried hypnobirthing? I'm thinking about it

Any thoughts on it?

I didn't for my first birth, but I did for my second. I didn't take any courses on it, but I did download a book on Audible that I listened to. I found it really helpful, more for how to be a good advocate for myself, I had an induction and I wanted a balloon induction and not a pessary and I wanted to have something to eat and a rest after they broke my waters, before I started on the drip. The hypnobirthing book, have me some really good tools in how to feel calm and confident about asking for things I wanted, while being able to take any changes calmly.

I didn't really find the affirmations that useful for me or the changing or terms, like switching contractions to surges, but I can see how it can help reframe it for some people.

I did a class and some reading on hypnobirthing, as well as some practice. It helped in the run up to labour being established but not so much with the proper contractions. I would recommend it but would also plan for pain relief options alongside. Good luck!

I only had pethidine for my first, and felt completely out of control, so decided with my second, I WAS IN CHARGE and taking control, and did meditation, had a mantra to chant, REALLY practised my breathing and relaxation. I was so relaxed, drifting off to sleep between contractions, they didn't realise I was as far on as I was, and my daughter was born on the trolley-we didn't even get hooked up in the delivery room! It WAS NOT painful, I really concentrated, and it was quick. Good luck, but you CAN do it!

I did the “Positive Birth Company” Hypnobirthing online digital pack and also read the book and found it invaluable to prepare me and my partner for labour and everything that goes along with it. And especially to understand my choices and advocate for myself.
