My LO wakes up at about 4am every morning with very bad wind. She squirms all over the place and passes lots of wind but it’s clear that she is in discomfort. It takes about 2 hours to pass (excuse the pun) and for me to comfort her again. The last couple of nights I’ve been giving her gripe water at night and once in the day but I’m not sure if it’s working or not?! We burp her in the day very successfully after feeds but I’ve realised it’s because she sucks on her fists/ fingers so vigorously all the time that she’s taking in so much air!!
Anything else I should try? Infacol?
Thanks all 🙏

We had the same when our little boy was younger! I think we may have had some silent reflux too to be honest.. He would pass lots of wind early hours of the morning.. wake himself up kicking legs etc. Never really liked laying flat.. hated car seat etc. Gripe water never helped us either - and Infacol did not work with ours. So I decided not to bother with the stuff. Maybe I did not persevere long enough 😇 It eventually just settled as he got older. Refluxy symptoms too 😅 I think his gastric system just needed time to mature! I am a first time mum .. so sorry I have no advice really! But he did not seem majorly bothered.. but enough to wake him 🥱😵💫
I just wanted you to know you are not alone and it did pass! He passes wind - burping and trumping - very easily now! He is 6 months. It started improving after around 3ish months I would say.
Maybe ask your HV for advice re Infacol etc. Unless others on here have advice 😇 It is hard waking that early - but you are doing amazing I am sure!! 🥰 and it did settle!
Thank you so much for the reassurance 💕. So kind of you to send such a great message. It is exhausting being up for 2 hours from 4am but I’m more worried for her to be honest as she seems to be in pain 😢. Hopefully it will pass. I bought infacol today and trying it so we’ll see xx
If you are worried, maybe a call to the GP for reassurance? I am assuming she has wet and dirty nappies ok. Might not be much gp can do, as I think trapped wind can be quite normal while they work out how their diaphragm and pelvic floor works.. but if you worry - might be worth a check! Hope it settles soon for her!! 🤞🧡
It sound a little like my baby. He is often very uncomfortable with trapped wind and passes lots of wind. He also has silent reflux and has to take omeprazole now which really helps and doesn’t cause any constipation, unlike Gaviscon which I am told is awful stuff.
We were told in hospital that the most common cause for excessive wind and silent reflux is an allergy to cows milk. So I have stopped all dairy from my diet (so no traces in breast milk) and he gets a top up of special prescription formula for cows milk allergy now. It has made a massive difference for us.
When they are little they are often sensitive to foods, most commonly dairy and second most common soya apparently. If your LO is on formula it might be good to discuss with the GP and see if she responds better to one designed for cows milk sensitivity.
Thanks so much for your response. I had really thought about going dairy free (I don’t drink cows milk anyway) but your message has just confirmed that I should give it a go thank you. Interesting what the hospital told you. She was on formula at night for about 10 days to see if it would help her sleep better (it didn’t) so she is only breastfed at the mo. Thank you 🙏 xx
Good luck and yes worth a try especially if it’s something that you are also sensitive too. There is a long family history of dairy intolerance in my family so when the doctors told us this might be the problem, it made complete sense to me.
Keep in mind that it takes between 10 days and 4 weeks for all traces of dairy to be removed from your body and breast milk, so it won’t be an instant result. I saw a difference in the first week however so everyone is different.
Ahh interesting thanks. To be honest I don’t eat very much dairy but I’m giving a vegan diet a go from today 🤞. I would envisage seeing quite a quick difference (if it is that) given I don’t eat it all that much. X
I saw something on YouTube about the way you hold your baby to release the wind as the shape of their stomach and digestive system is not straight making the wind get trapped, so to hold them face down but up right and wiggle their bottoms...
Yes that's the one, ah ok hopefully you can resolve it especially as you're getting broken Sleep. Contact health visitor or doctor & get something on prescription
