Miscarriage?

Hi I am about 5-6 weeks pregnant and I have been bleeding for the past 3 days. It hasn’t been too heavy, actually it’s much lighter than my normal period. There also hasn’t been any clots or pain. I’m just still so scared that it might be a mc. I’m going to the doctors today hopefully for them to run some tests. I just wanted to see if this happened to anyone else as well.

Hi, yes this happened to me on and off around the same time. I'm 10+ weeks now and it seems to have stopped! I can understand how you are feeling, because when I saw the blood I also thought it was miscarriage. But since it was light bleeding, the midwife told me on the phone to just wait and see if it stops as it could be implantation bleeding, and do a pregnancy test again in 2 weeks time. She said they couldn't do anything at this stage even if it was miscarriage, unless it was ectopic, because it was too early in the pregnancy. For me the bleeding lasted for 4days (very light all the way), then stopped, then came back a week later, lasted about a day or 2 then stopped again. We did a private scan around 9 weeks (when you could actually see something in the womb) just to see everything was ok given the bleeding, that really put me at ease.

It is terrifying when no one tells you beforehand that you could be bleeding during pregnancy! But apparently it is normal for most women. My midwife said her mother had monthly period-like bleeding when pregnant but it was all good.

Just be aware of other symptoms though if you are in very strong pain etc., as there are lots of different reasons for bleeding, and if you haven't done so yet call the midwife and they should be able to tell you what to do :) The NHS website also gives you a list of reasons why you could be bleeding.

I bled lightly in the beginning and went back to see the doctor too. They said it sometimes just happens. I had cramps and such so I was worried. Implantation bleeding could cause it most likely. They also mentioned sex could be a factor. Since then I found out my placenta decided to not be in the "normal correct" place so that could've added to it. I'm happy to say I'm 26 weeks now though.

I've had a lot of miscarriages, so I understand being afraid of it. However, I do always try to think whatever happens is for the best to comfort myself. Just since most miscarriages have to do with chromosomal defects. But I'm sending positive thoughts your way and hopefully it'll all just be the normal weird changes that happen sometimes.

🙂 Good luck!
