Chickenpox?

My toddler started nursery in July and has caught everything going. About a week ago we got an email saying there had been 1 confirmed case of chickenpox in the baby room (where he is). Thought we were out of the woods but I’ve just found what looks like 4 tiny pimples on his leg.

If your child has ever had chickenpox please can you tell me if they started off like this?? I’ve googled but it’s only showing full blown cases 😬

They look like chicken pox to me. My little boy had them and when it started he had one little pimple/ blister and he was covered within a couple of days. We got calamine lotion to help relieve the itch. I would try and cut his nails as well x

Hey there, sorry to say I’d agree with the previous poster - it does look like chicken pox to me.Both my children have had it and I was surprised how poorly they were as well as the spots/itching. We kept them dosed up with calpol (def DON’T give ibuprofen/nurofen) and used Eurax which you can buy over the counter. There’s lots of home remedies which are suggested to help reduce itching if you google online. Hard to know if they work.

Fingers crossed it won’t be a bad case x

The tend to start off in warm areas but it’s not a hard and fast rule. I suspect by now more spots have appeared and it’s more obvious if it’s indeed the pox. Oat baths, bicarb in the bath, you can buy calamine mixed with aqueous cream which is supposed to be good. Hope your little one is ok and gets over it quickly enough xx

Looks like chicken pox. Good for kids to have it young. My mum and the other parents at school used to have chicken pox parties to ensure they all got it. It is a myth though that you can only get it once.

Thanks everyone! The spots are no worse today but he’s been VERY grizzly and seems generally unwell. Woke up from his afternoon nap with a fever of 39 so I’m not sure if this is the begining or something else entirely! Time will tell x

Hey there, oh no poor chap. I underestimated chicken pox thinking it was just itchy spots but this is exactly how they were. There are classic symptoms..it often starts with a fever/temp for a few days followed by the spots. A warm bath often brings the spots out.If in doubt you could always give the GP a call just to get checked out. Hope he’s better soon whatever it is xx
