Fetal RhD test INCONCLUSIVE

Hello all,

I am 15 weeks pregnant with my second and things went very smoothly so far, no major problems, just general symptoms of nausea and tiredness which now at 15 weeks faded being able to even restart my running (more like a jogging now to be honest). My problem now is that, I am Rhd negative, the same is my husband. So, we had no problems when I had my first as she came up with Rh negative too.

For my second pregnancy I had done the ffDNA test when I had my 13 weeks scan appointment at the hospital. The results came up as “Fetal RhD typing was INCONCLUSIVE. Manage this pregnancy as if this fetus is RhD POSITIVE”. This requires a prophylactic anti-D immunoglobulin injection at 28 weeks and then keeping it under observation with any beeding I may have as anti-d is required. Another injection would again be required if after delivery baby’s blood is found to be actually positive.

Just wonder how this uncertainty could be possible if both parents are negative?

Does anyone had to deal with a similar problem? Did you repeated the ffDNA test or did you go for the injection ?

I know they said that they don’t recommend to repeat the test, but just wonder if anyone considered this as an option and things came up clearer for the second time?

Not sure what to do and any advice will be honestly welcomed

I never had the baby tested during my pregnancy, it's wasn't offered as part of my NHS tests and my husband is rhesus positive so I just assumed I'd have it. I had the injection at around 28 weeks and then 1 after birth with no issues from it either time. I also had to have one after a miscarriage.

Personally I would have the injection and not have any other tests done, I'd rather be on the side of caution, if they haven't confirmed baby being negative.

Thank you Seb9. I will probably do the same. I just read the booklet they gave about Rh negative, and it seems that the injections don’t have side effects and the benefits in case of a positive baby weight much more. So it seems the right choice to do them.

They don’t test for it within the NHS- I’m negative too so I had the AntiD injection during my first pregnancy, but didn’t need it post birth as my daughter was the same blood group. Second pregnancy has been the same- so fingers crossed following birth of this baby that she’s the same too!I would get the injection- I had no side effects either time and found it fine :)
