Hi all

So my little is 16 weeks. She was always a sicky baby and a crier but thought it was just her. But as time went on she seemed to be in pain and had light rash on back. I went to the gp and she was put on nutramigen. But a few weeks later still sicky. Uncomfortable and windy. Gpbgave her gaviscon and she was brilliant a happy baby at last. But since Monday her symptoms started ro return and worse. So sicky. Crying. Throwing head back, grunting and screaming. Spoke to the gp yesterday who prescribed omeprazole. I have give her 1st dose this morning. Does anyone have any information about this. When does it start to work. Its hard as I have a 3 year old son and I feel like I cant spend anytime with him as I'm always dealing with the baby

Any help much appreciated 🙏

Hello, my girl has/had silent and normal reflux, I sympathize! I think it took at least a week maybe 2 for meds to kick in with my girl, she was on lanzoprzol though which is similar. She's been on it since quite young and it's really helped!! Also my girl is combi feed, was 50/50 now just one bottle a day and majority BF - nutramigen wasn't helping so we went onto Neocate which is quite pricey so a bit of a fight to get on the NHS... We also did early weaning so very small tastes of veggies from about 18 weeks under the advice of a peadeticrian which I'm really glad we did as we've had quite mixed result with foods and reflux. We found only introducting one new food every 3 days has made it really obvious what aggrivates her reflux and it's allowed us to take everything really slowly and enjoy the weaning process. You feeding your baby small and frequently with bottle feeds? I also moved the bath to the daytime as all the up and down with changing was making things worse before bed... So tough with reflux. Good luck with the meds... X

Hi Laura. Thank you for the reply. Yes the health visitor said I can start to give her one teaspoon a day of pureed veg to help make the stomach flap stronger so that's the plan for Monday. She is having about 7 bottles a day at 7oz. Not sure the nutramigen as helped as she still has the rash on her back. I gave her the 1st dose of omeprazole today and haven't noticed a difference yet. She can just be lying there happy. Then she just burts in to a high pitched cry. Then a minute later she will bring up clear sick. And when she burps it seems like it hurts her

Strange thing is at bed time . She has her bath and then her bottle with no issues and straight to sleep. Its just in the day when she is beside herself x

It will definitely take a while to kick in. Poor thing. That's great about bedtime, excellent in fact. Sounds like she has relaxed in the evening after her bath - I do wonder about the discomfort making them stressed which agitates the reflux. So I think nutramigen still has dairy in it whereas Neocate doesn't ... I think?! Reflux isnt very understood and it feels to me like weight and nappies are the marker of a healthy happy baby for the HV & GPs but you know when something isn't right don't you! .good luck with the meds X
