Is there anyone who was made redundant as they were due to take mat leave?

Just wondering if anyone has been made redundant just as they were about to take mat leave? Just looking for some advice.

There's lots of places that can offer you advice on being made redundant while pregnant, depending on what your concern is. Maternity action is helpful if your worried about pay and smp for example.

You can also contact ACAS for advice and there is also a charity called pregnant then screwed that can give you advice on being made redundant.

It happens more than you think, I read some years back 52% of pregnant women lose their work. You are not alone, ACAS are good, and Citizens Advice too.

Thank you, I didnt realise its so common. As it came out of the blue was like a slap in the face & then the worry of what i going to do 😪

I'm trying to see it as a blessing in disguse in a way x

Yes, it may well be a blessing in disguise. A change of work may be possible, that is what I did in the end. But then Covid-19 hit and I am once again out of work. The job centre plus in the UK can help you as well.

How far along are you? If you’re within 15 weeks of your due date they have to also pay your maternity leave as well as redundancy.

Thank you for your reply, I'm 31 weeks so they've reassured me I'll still get SMP but unfortunately as I've been there only 18months I'm not entitled to redundancy pay.

Its just frustrating as I know have to start my mat leave 6 weeks early as my contract is ending on 9th sept although I was due to start on 23rd so I'll be twiddling my thumbs for 6 weeks or longer if she decides to come late. I can't help but feel annoyed mainly as this came out of the blue.

I've been looking into entitlements & seem i'll have to go onto UC until I'm able to find something else x
