Breastfeeding

My little boy is 19 weeks old and has been exclusively breastfed since he was born. I have been extremely lucky to have a good milk flow and my nipples have got away unscathed....until now. This past week they have become slightly sore but it looks like they are swollen on the bottom half of my nipple.

Has anybody else experienced this? Is this something I should be concerned with or can it be normal? I have been applying nipple cream which does sooth the pain but does not bring the swelling down. Also, could it be linked to teething and excess saliva as my baby boy has started teething.

Thank you in advance for any advice 🙂

It could be mastitis. Have a look on the nhs website about it. I've heard massaging the breast can help.

If you've had no pain up until now then you shouldn't get it all of a sudden xx

Hello, it could be mastitis. The breast can become hard and sore.

What I found better then the nipple cream. Was if I hand expressed my milk, allowed it to flow out and then massage it into the breast. They healed faster. Plus it's free, your own milk.
