I have had an early scan today, I’m 6 weeks pregnant and been told I’ve an intramural fibroid of 4cm. Has anyone had these before? Was everything ok and long term did you need surgery?

Hi,

I had an anterior wall fibroid measuring 3cm. There was a risk of it growing, blocking my cervix thereby making vaginal delivery impossible due to its position or rupturing causing severe bleeding. I was told not to worry about it (very hard) as fibroids are quite common. It was monitored throughout my pregnancy and luckily it did not change. I was supposed to have a vaginal delivery but was overdue, so had an emergency Caesarean. I actually can’t remember if it was removed during my C-section or not, but I know I lost a lot of blood from reading my medical notes.

My advice is also not to worry about it, which is really difficult and pray the fibroid doesn’t grow. Nevertheless your doctors will keep you well informed either way.

Glad everything worked out for you, it just wasn’t what I wanted to hear when I had my scan and think I was just shocked. Thank you very much for replying.

Yeah, I was shocked initially too. I hope it all goes well for you.

Thanks for sharing. Just found 4 fibroids with 2 of the largest at 5.4cm each. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and was told not to worry (impossible not to) since baby is healthy. I hope they stay the same size. I'm still in shock too and seriously disappointed in my body.

Hi Jess,

I’m also pregnant and have a fibroid which was noted at my scan but unless they’ve told you it’s a problem I wouldn’t worry too much about it. They are very common, one in three woman have them xx

Thank you for replying, it was more the size of it I was worried about. Hopefully it will shrink in time, hope yours doesn’t cause you any trouble. Xx

Mine was actually bigger than yours when they measured it at my early private scan but I’m now 27 weeks and no problems. It wasn’t even mentioned at my NHS scans xx
