subchorionic hematoma

On Saturday I had a bleed and ended up in hospital (internal done bloods swabs and urine test done) no scan was offered or give..So I booked a private one on Sunday to which I got told I had a subchorionic hematoma (blood clot). Just wondering if anyone else had had this? And what happened? I'm absolutely sick with worry. X

That's odd that no scan was offered on NHS. Where u given follow up with early pregnancy unit? (They're normally the ones who would do a scan rather than a&e). If no follow up I would suggest asking ur gp to refer u to them, unless u already have a midwife to get in contact with. Haematomas are common, but I would think they would want to follow it up.

Nope no scan offered and no follow up by EPU who I seen on the Saturday. I phoned my midwife told her what the private scan found but they didn't put anything down in my notes or nothing. She did say it was common. But I just can't stop this the worst and I'm constantly walking on egg shells thinking something will go wrong. It's my 4th baby and nothing like this has ever happened. I have an other private scan on Sunday but I just can settle with knowing what iv got. X

I had one too - discovered 4 weeks ago after I had a bleed and went into the EPU (who scanned me - I'm really surprised they wouldn't scan you, that seems really poor of them). I had a scan a week later (more on which below) which showed it had cleared up and haven't had any bleeding or issues since. Mine was very small and I was also told that especially if very small they are very common and nothing to worry about. They can just be caused by a bit of the placenta attaching / pulling away. I think if they are bigger they can continue to cause bleeding for a little while until they heal up. I was very firmly told by the EPU that my bleed and SC wasn't a negative indicator for my pregnancy and not to worry. But stress isn't good for you, so if you are still worried I would go back to the EPU - I went back a week after my bleed and told them my anxiety was still through the roof and so I needed a scan to check everything was okay, as I was worried my anxiety would harm the baby and they did scan me. Hi do you know roughly what size yours was? Iv been on phone to EPU and can't get hold of them. Just seems like no1 is helping me. And because it was a problem scan that found it and not them they don't take anything to do with it. X

I can't remember sorry. I just know they considered it small. Can you just turn up to the walk in service? The midwife at my checking in appointment said that they have to treat you if you are really anxious. After mine I was also really anxious despite them telling me not to be which is why I went back a week later for that second scan, which they were happy to do once I told them how stressed I was. Like you I have never found the telephone line helpful - no one ever answers!

Hey, I also had this in my early pregnancy and pretty much bled non stop for the first 10 weeks. So so stressful. Mine was considered large, it was 3-4cm and I was advised to go on a two weeks bed rest which actually helped as I didn't bleed since. Most of the time the body absorbes the bleed but I was told by EPU that in very early weeks if the bleed is as large as mine was there is a risk that when it comes out it may take/ push the sack out with it. I am now 30 weeks and it hasn't been mentioned on any further scans. Hope this is reassuring x

Thanks for your reply...I'm 12+5 iv only bleed a little. Just the NHS are not bothered what my private scan had to say. And I'm sick with worry. Mines is 6.1cm. I have phoned hospital and demanded they see me they are phoning back in an hour x

Mine happened at 12+1, so a similar time. It is so stressful - i hope they call back and agree to see you. But if for any reason they don't phone back and arrange to see you can you just turn up? It is harder to turn someone away when they are standing there than it is on the phone. And while it is probably nothing to worry about it isn't good you being so stressed. X

Not really I have to young kids and I couldn't tell you what part of the hospital to go to...I'll make sure they see me! They ain't fobbing me off this is my baby and my body and I want to make sure it's fine. Iv had two dizzy/blackouts in past half hour so think that's a bad sign xx

Baby is healthy and jumping away...I have what is called sac separation (cause a bruise which is blood) that's why iv been bleeding..1in4 pregnancy get it (they don't mention it to you unless you've had bleeding) I could have more bleeding but it won't cause any harm to me or our baby..The weight has been lifted off my shoulders and can now start to relax. X

Said I can still bleed which is normal with it or it could absorb and just to watch it and I it gets heavy and clots to phone in and get checked..She also said it's very unlikely to cause miscarriage but there is always a 5% with any pregnancy. Still we bit worried but not half as much. Will be taking it easy for the time being x

That was the same advice I was given - it might bleed or might reabsorb and be fine. I guess it reabsorbed because I only had that one occasion of bleeding. And when I went back a week later they couldn't see it on the scan at all. When it happened to me I did a Google search (I don't recommend it - you get lots of stuff which is irrelevant and some of it just worries you more). I found lots of people online who had the same thing and some of them bleed for ages with it and their babies were totally fine. X

Hello, I know how terrifying it is as I had one with my son and discovered it at 7 weeks. By 20 weeks there was no mention of it and it had absorbed back but I was so scared. They talk of all sorts of dangers but I think the vast majority turn out absolutely fine and my sonographer said that many people have them in early pregnancy but would never know, it's only in the modern world where we can scan for everything all the time that we 'see inside' such a lot more. My son is now 3.5. Try not to worry. X
