Fast labour / Precipitous Birth / Excess Amniotic Fluid (Polyhydramnios)

Hello! I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced a rapid birth with their first born and went on to have second babies?

I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant with our second baby (my toddler is 20 months) and I’m wondering how quick the second birth could be considering we had a birth from start to finish in 2 hours 53 minutes.

We had been hypnobirthing and I imagine this sped up the process as I was sat in triage with back-to-back contractions and apparently no one noticed.

It was completely unexpected, and both my partner and I were in a state of shock for a few weeks after the birth but I didn’t have any tears [just a few grazes] and fortunately had no trouble bonding with our son.

I’m slightly concerned [the feeling comes and goes most days] that we may not make it to the hospital in time!

We’ve considered home birth options but my partner is not keen and I feel like if I didn’t know that I had a fast birth the first time, my choice would be to be in the birth centre at the hospital again as my experience there was wonderful.

This pregnancy I have had a period where I had mild to moderate excess amniotic fluid [have another scan at the end of this week to check again] so that can cause complications though it is very unlikely... another reason why I’d like to be close to a medical team.

I’d love to hear any words of wisdom or advice so I can feel prepared. Birth stories welcome!

Thank you 😊

Side note: Also, I’ve been researching raspberry leaf tea online (I used this every day for the last six weeks of pregnancy the first time) and some sites say not to use it if you had a labour/birth in under three hours...?!

Hi

When I had my son I was only in labour 2 hours 50 minutes and my son was stuck for 2 hours so to be on the safe side I requested to be induced on my daughter and I’m glad I did she was born within 3 minutes of my waters breaking causing her to go into shock and not breath for the first 20 minutes so I would speak to the consultant about options as like you I was concerned I wouldn’t make it to hospital if I went into labour at home.

Hope that helps xXx
