5 weeks pregnant with blood

I came home from work last night, went to the toilet and there was dark brown/red blood on the tissue. I’ve had a small amount of brown discharge this evening.

Last night I phoned 111 and out of hours as I thought I was miscarrying. I have to go to my GP Monday and get referred for an early pregnancy scan.

Has anyone had this? I’ve read so much since last night, it’s early signs of miscarriage, or it’s normal in the early day. I guess I’m just worrying because I don’t have answers right now.

Thank you

Try not to panic although I know from experience that’s almost impossible!

I had similar 3 times between 6-10 weeks, sometimes just once or twice when I wiped but another time it was heavier and lasted for days. Everything was fine for me and I was told that unless it’s bright red and heavy enough to fill a pad then it can be completely normal. I hope everything is ok and I’m sure an early scan will reassure you xx

Hey I had spotting u til around 7/8 weeks. The nurse said to me that pregnancy can do funny things to your body and get rid of bits in all your nooks and crannies ❤️ xxx

I had this from about 5 weeks until 6 weeks. Spotting eventually stopped and a couple days later i had a big bleed. Had a scan and all was fine. Since the big bleed i haven't had anymore spotting. I'm 7 weeks now. It's really really scary, and i was so worried the whole time too, so i know how you feel. When i went to the hospital for the scan after my bleed, the nurse scanning me didn't seem bothered. She said its really common for women to have some sort of bleeding in early pregnancy. My clinic didn't even want to see me when i told them about the spotting, because it's so common. Hoping everything goes well for you, try not to worry x

If it’s just a bit and has stopped you’ll most likely be fine. This happened to me but sadly within a few hours it got a lot heavier. I had two miscarriages this way but was at 7 weeks both times. I’m now pregnant for 3rd time and past 26 weeks with a healthy kicking baby boy on board! I did get spotting again with this little fella too like you have described (it went away though and didn’t continue or get heavy) and I went for an early scan and all was fine and here we are! Just know...no matter what it’s not in your control. Wishing you all the very best hun xx

It could be implantation bleeding, which is quite normal around that time. I had a small amount of bleeding around a similar time and thought we'd lost the little one but an early scan at 6 weeks showed a little peanut. It is early days, so try not to worry (I'm sure easier said than done), and good luck with the scan.
