Maternity exemption certificate

Hello! do you know how long it takes for this certificate to arrive? I’ve had my first appointment with the midwife on the 22nd of October and she took my email address and told me this would be sent to me. Nothing so far. I have to see a hygienist a few times in the next weeks as I’m having problems with my gums and my hygienist said I shouldn’t be paying for these appointments, however need the certificate to qualify for free dental care...thanks!

Not sure if it helps but mine was emailed to me and it arrived straight away, like literally. Have you checked your spam/junk box? It might be worth a call to your midwife x

Thanks! I’ve called yesterday but she didn’t answer so I left a text message explaining everything. No answer so far... I have an appointment in 3 weeks time so I’ll raise it again if I don’t hear from her in the meantime. Thank you for the help!

Mine took a couple of weeks too but you are able to claim back money for treatment if you keep the receipt. The exemption cert will have a date on so as long as treatment falls within the dates you can claim it back. Although I think you may only have a month or so to do it from the date of treatment (I think!)

Thanks!!! I’ll check with the dentist when I’m next back. I’m feeling this certificate will never arrive!

Agree with Franco81, get them to write you up a receipt (they have a special form for this, or at least the pharmacy did for me) and then you can retrospectively claim it back (for the pharmacy one you can get it back from any pharmacy not the one you used). I did this after getting two prescriptions from the GP for morning sickness and he did the form whilst I was there and then when the card arrived I claimed the money back x

You don’t need it for dental, strange but true

If you go too the medical exemption part on NHS website you can see if it’s been confirmed then you can just show to pharmacies etc :)
