My niece has broken her femur, and is in hospital for the next few days at least. Is it safe to visit? I’m 16 weeks pregnant after 5 lots of ivf and two miscarriages. I’m anxious about infection etc. Would it be ok or best not to?

Visiting a sick child in hospital whilst pregnant.
Hiya, I’m 18 weeks pregnant after ivf and I understand your why you’re so anxious, I am too. But you’ll be needing to go to hospital for some of your appointments so I’d suggest as long as you’re washing your hands in and out of the wards then you should be ok. I would check with your clinic though. But if you really don’t want to risk it I’m sure your niece would understand xxx
Totally understand why you’re anxious after what you’ve been through to get there but it should be ok. Firstly she will probably be on an orthopaedic ward so people should generally be there because they’ve hurt things rather than got infections.
If you follow the instructions about hand hygiene when entering and leaving the ward you should be fine. There’ll be nurses working there who are or have been pregnant (I worked in a hospital throughout my IVF pregnancy) but if you’re still worried I’m sure your niece would be happy with a present/card then a visit at home when she’s back. You could even use Skype or FaceTime etc to ‘visit’ her😊 x
You should be fine. Just wash hands etc. I had to go to my dads chemo appointments when I was pregnant and I was fine x
You'll be fine ... I worked in medicine and a&e during both my pregnancies. Lots of pregnant staff there who are working day in and out and are absolutely fine. Just take precautions. I would assume if children have an infective problem they would be in a single room. Might be worth double checking with the nurses on the ward if you are concerned
I'm in the last trimester and have had to make at least 3 trips to the hospital with my son over the last few months I've been fine but i do always worry about what germs are hanging around.
Like the others have said, wash your hands and use the antibac stuff they have dotted around the hospital, and you'll be fine.
Hope your little niece is ok!
