I suffered with hyperemesis gravidarum in my last pregnancy I’m 6 weeks and starting to feel really sick.

I’m now 6 weeks with my second child and I’m petrified I’m going to get it again. I haven’t even had my first doctors appointment, and that’s not until two weeks time. Do you think I should get a closer appointment or wait until my booked one in two weeks? I was on really strong medication for it last time and i suffered with it for 6 months of the pregnancy. Does anyone have any advice please?

If you are feeling quite sick already I’d make a GP appointment and go and talk through your options, I’ve read the earlier you get treatment the less the symptoms become and have an impact. I had IVF and had a blood test at the equivalent of 4 weeks which confirmed a pregnancy and by 4+1 I was ill! 😩 I lasted a couple of days but thought I can’t continue like this for a whole pregnancy as I wasn’t eating and only drinking 500mls a day, I got some meds and although I was on them for the entire pregnancy I became functionally nauseous and could eat and drink fluid 😊 I’d try and head off the worst of the symptoms before they start personally x

If yours was severe then make an earlier appointment however the doctor has to make that diagnose themselves regardless of past pregnancy because each are not guaranteed to be the same but again it's up to you

It usually starts around the 6 week mark. I had really bad morning sickness with my first child and now i'm 9 weeks pregnant with it again. I'm on medication which has subsided the nausea but I'm noticing with this one I'm extremely tired and can barely stand for long. I feel dizzy alot more and I'm finding the sick feeling, really bad dry mouth and horrible metallic sick taste in my mouth gets worth from mid afternoon. By the time I get home from work all I want to do is brush my teeth and go to bed but I have a 7 year old to cater to. I can't wait to get over this period. It completely left by week 14 in my first pregnancy but I'm hoping with this one it will leave by week 12.

Definitely not doing this again after this baby I'll tell you that!

Every pregnancy is different but there could be a strong chance you'll have it again with this one. I doubt the doctors would prescribe any medication to you if you're not in full blown sickness mode so probably wait to see if you get sick and if you do then book an emergency appointment.

Best of luck!

I also had hyperemesis with my 1st. Got to 7 weeks for the first 5 days , I was just sick in the morning being able to still eat ect. For the past the days the sickness has bin going through our the day I have not bin able to keep anything down today not even water. My head is pounding i have lost 4 pounds. I think it is time to ring the midwife tomorrow it is also school holidays my poor little boy has bin amazing. And the last thing i want to do is call in sick at work. No sympathy for us ladies who suffer with severe sickness 🤢. I don't want medication maybe it has something to do with the olden days I went on a drip last time and helped so well.

Yeah that’s how I was the first time and now I’m petrified of becoming like that again. See I was on a drop for four days but once I was out of the hospital it came back, so I had to have medication but even then it didn’t stop it completely. It’s such a horrible thing to go through, I wish there was more information and help with it all. It’s so nice knowing your not alone though
