Under active thyroid or pregnancy tiredness?

Hi all, I’m 6 weeks pregnant and reading everything pregnancy related online as this is my first child.

I’m having trouble staying awake, I was diagnosed with under active thyroid last February 2019 and on permanent medication for it. I was stabilised until I found out I was pregnant two weeks ago and can’t get an appointment with the GP to have my blood tested.

Is it likely to be pregnancy related or thyroid levels?

Any help would be great 😊

Hi

Yes from about 6 weeks I was that tired, felt like I'd been hit by a steam roller all the time.

I've never felt tiredness like it, but suppose its nothing compared to what's to come when little one arrives.

If you do think you're thyroid could be making it worse i would contact your doctor to be sure.

Try and rest when you can and drink plenty of fluids x

Thank you. I too haven’t felt tiredness like this before. I was tired when my thyroid levels were high but not like this.

I’ll make an appointment with the drs. 😊

Ask for a telephone appointment with your GP. Your thyroid medication needs to be monitored and modified in pregnancy as requirements go up. It would well be pregnancy related but still you need your thyroid monitoring.

Thank you. I’m going to phone the drs this morning and hopefully get my bloods rechecked as they were only done about 6 weeks ago. 😊

Hi I would ask for blood test. I'm on levothyroxine and was advised to increase tablet by 25 or 50 mcg as soon as positive preg test. I would at least ask gp. For call back. I have a lso pushed fir blood test every 6 weeks as important to monitor it. Also look at British thyroid foundation website. Lots of useful info. X

I have had a blood test a week last Tuesday and when I rang for the results the receptionist said they’re clear. I’m now arguing to speak to a GP as I know they are not clear as I’m already on 125mg of levothyroxin.

I will be pushing for repeat blood tests once I can speak to my gp. Thanks for your response, I’ll have a look at that website. 🙂
