So I thought I would start this thread in order to help us new mums out. I have watched countless videos on YouTube about best and worst baby purchases first time mums have made and thought to start my own thread.
I know how overwhelming it can be.
So let’s separate the fads from function and see what you’ve regretted buying and what you’ve loved buying 💕

I regretted buying a coat for a small baby as its fiddly to put on. A pram suit/snow suit is much easier. Also wish I never bought a Moses basket. Although cute and easy to move around my LG was in it for around 8 weeks as she was born big. We only live in a flat so she then slept in the next to me crib for her naps or we would just have her sleep on us as you can’t have too many baby cuddles.
My best buy has been a movement monitor for when she went in her own cot bed at six months. It picks up their breathing and an alarm sounds if they stop. It has gone off due to the fact she rolls to the top of the bed but would much rather that than sleepless nights worrying xx
It’s by Angelcare and it picks up the chest moving up and down. It says it’s not for breathing but it gives us peace of mind especially as they start to roll around and find different sleeping positions.
Also if you bottle feed a perfect prep machine is a life saver.
If anyone can come up with a good sling they can recommend that would be helpful. My LG is 8 months and never got the hang of the one we bought as there are too many clips. Just want something easy and non-faffy xx
Oh and an angelcare bath seat. It’s sloped so we also used it as a chair for her in the lounge and she loved sitting in it to look around rather than always lying flat x
The best things I bought for our twin girls were the Joie Serina 2 in 1 swing. They loved it as newborns and settled in it so well. It swings back and forth and side to side. The seats unclip so can just be a floor bouncer/chair and the insert comes out so it lasts ages. It plays soothing music and white noise. It has been our most used product.
Other than that the Angelcare monitor previously mentioned is amazing and also the Tomee Tippee perfect prep machine if you plan to bottle feed at all.
I also found a Velcro swaddle incredibly helpful and better than the muslin ones as they are more secure.
I actually found the Sleepyhead the biggest waste of money. Especially as we bought two...
I use Bumgenius but it’s a case of trial and error with the makes, some fit slightly different to others. If you have a look on the nappy lady website they give loads of advice and if you are in the U.K. look out for your local nappy library as you can try different types and makes
My Best Buy was the nursing pillow. My LO at 4 weeks had managed to damage my shoulders and had to see the physio. The nursing pillow resolved the issue.
Love nest baby pillow for her little head.
Carrier one from babybjorn (after a year we are still using for going out)
Medela electric pump.
Didn’t have a worst or bad buy as I use most of her things mins you I bought things along the way when I needed them.
I haven't bothered with a baby bath, bath mat & running a shallow bath is all I need, & I have a basic crib that doesn't swing which is more than adequate.
I do actually use my Moses basket a lot but it's not an expensive one- £30 with stand from aldi because they really aren't worth the expensive price tag.
My baby monitors are the basic plug in ones, I really don't think the breathing mats & video ones are necessary- I'm rarely more than a few feet away from my baby at the moment lol
Don't get a big puffy snowsuit- too thick for the car seat. I thinner pram suit is much better & can layer up with blankets
This is a great thread... for those of you that have opted for a cot rather than a next to me crib... has anyone brought the Snuz cot bed.. would you recommend? 😊
Best buys hmm basic essentials like cot, push chair, bottles, steamer etc, lamp with dimmer, a bouncer or chair, ikea high chair super cheap and they can sit up better in them, baby monitor I would purchase a one with camera.
Money and space waster I had a baby bath on a stand although I did use it it took up space and cost about £70-80 I still have it in my loft. I wouldnt even buy a baby bath now.
Same with moses baskets and bedside cots grow out of the too quick I'd just use the cot in the nursery or the pram if downstairs.
Had a baby carrier was faffy didnt use it but might try a sling tho.
Bumbo seat was a waste
Urgh them nappy bin had to buy cartridges and the bin stank
Baby clothes I bought so many like rails it took me years to sell them at carboot sales.
Thank you so much ladies, I’m reading through these comments properly now and think it’s fantastic you’ve all contributed to this thread. X
One of my best buys is a morrck car seat blanket as it keeps them snug as can’t wear coats in seats, I used it last year when my LG was newborn and still fits this winter on her next stage car seat can also use in the pram & buggy.
