It is totally up to you when you want to start buying things. Buying things will not jinx the pregnancy. However, it's always good to think about how you would feel should anything happen and you have a house full of new baby stuff. Depends on how you feel basically. I bought my baby's going home from hospital outfit really early. Then bought a few bits after the 12 week scan. The big bits were all bought between 30 and 40 weeks as I really didn't want to have loads of stuff around until I needed it, taking up space, etc. I ordered the pram to be delivered to my mum's friend's house a week before the due date. Again, I didn't want to clutter up the place until I needed the stuff x

I bought things as and when I seen a bargain. Most of my stuff was second hand except cot and moses basket as they were bought from money gifted by family. We bought our pram at 8wks pregnant as it was a mamas n papas travel system going for 60 pounds and I didn't want to pass it up.

It really does depend on how u feel. Of course the healthcare professionals will tell u 12 is the magic number but if ur happy and confident earlier than that then go for it :) xx

There is no right and wrong time :) i waited until after my 12 week scan but only because i had some scares before then - now i have everything and i am only 18 weeks haha people will say silly superstitious things but if this doesn't bother you i suggest you do what makes you happy xx congratulations!

I waited until I was about 7 months pregnant, partly in case something went wrong but also because I didn't want to end up buying too many things! It's so easily done ;-)

I'd just say that whatever you do, do waste too much money buying brand new, expensive things. Some things you'd definitely want new, like the going home outfit, Moses basket, mattress etc but otherwise head to some NCT Nearly New Sales and not only will you find brilliant bargains but you also get a chance to talk to parents, who can give you advice on what is good or necessary (obviously remember some will jut try and sell you things though!), you can get some lovely times and ideas!

I'd suggest looking out for a second hand Ergo Baby carrier! It was only through NNS that I came across them - they are extremely expensive new but SO worth having, they don't kill your shoulders and back like a Baby Björn for example ;-)

I second buying at NCT nearly new sales and see if you can borrow equipment from friends and family as you only use it for such a short time. I agree having a good carrier is important and Ergos are supposed to be good (I have a stretchy wrap, a Manduca buckles carrier and a woven wrap - there's loads out there), but be careful because there are a lot of fake Ergos being sold and some have safety issues. I would recommend a Victoria Sling Lady stretchy new for about £20 and then go to a sling library or hire online to try a selection when baby is here so you know what you want without spending a fortune.

You will be probably be given loads of clothes and toys as gifts. I would say don't go mad, buy the essentials but remember they just need your love and to be warm, you will have to spend enough money on them when they're older and need school uniform, PE kits, dance/karate lessons, music lessons etc.

Buy when you want to but you really don't need anything until you're 30 weeks or so. We had very little space so were very sensible and practical. I'd steer clear of buying tons of toys or outfits as people will give you lots of these. I only bought little bits here and there when I saw a sale and baby wore most of her first outfits once before she grew out of them! Get some vests and the essential baskets etc but everything else can wait. It's also great to spread the bigger things over a few pay days. Boots do a really good checklist of the essentials for hospital and first month, other than that people will spoil baby anyway!

Buy when you want cause sometimes you just can't help it. But I was 5months and lost my baby and had a pram a cot to store and loads of clothes to return that absolutly killed me doing it! but I can say you won't jinx the pregnancy and even with my second I couldn't help buying bits even before my scan. And have a healthy baby but a not so healthy bank balance since. You just won't be able to resist things

Hi Dizzy - ditto on January sales too. My 40th is in early December and there's Christmas too so going to ask that instead of presents people get me Mothercare vouchers. My friend who has recently given birth to her second child catagorically told me not to buy anything until the later stages - not because of jinxing but because she said everyone will buy you things - people at work, friends, relatives and at a baby shower too - she said she made the mistake first time round and had so much stuff that didn't last long because baby grew so fast that she had to spend hours taking things to charity shops or selling it on ebay. She listed off all the things she's going to pawn off on me once her baby is weaned too!! The other thing I realised is that hubby is pretty crap at DIY so I'm not reckoning on the nursery being ready before Christmas anyway and if I start buying now will have no where safe from his paintbrush to store it ;) I have to force myself not to look at baby clothes.....it's painful ;) - but as we've decided to find out the sex at 20 wk scan will treat myself to a very mini baby grow shopping trip then - just to satiate the excitement bubbles ;) Newborn in February means I can legitimately buy a novelty snowsuit!!! Yay!!! With ears ;D
