14 months and Refusing food & drink

Hi, didn’t know if someone can give me some advice! My little on is 14 months old and suffers with reflux still, the past couple of weeks his appetite has decreased to the point now he just will not eat or drink! He was hospitalised this week for being lethargic and refusing fluids! The doctor said there was no obvious sign why and as he had a slightly wet nappy within the 12 hour limit was aloud home! Although they did not do blood tests or a urine sample! I am getting increasingly worried as he’s so lethargic, clingy and is still refusing food and drink! Forcing fluids into him via a syringe! When I try feeding him with a bottle he seems to choke? Cough and splitter which he has done since being weened I still use the newborn size 1 teets as sippy cups make him cough and choke! Has anyone got any advice on this? I have taken him to the Gp frequently for vomiting continuously not just after meals but just get told he will grow out of it! Any advice would be appreciated!

The care you’ve recieved up to press sounds dreadful!! I’m amazed they are just letting this continue without proper investigation.. my sons 21 months and he’s only just stopped reflux meds. He was on ranitidine and omoperozole. It might be that he’s got a sore throat or a virus that’s putting him off eating and drinking if he’s linking the pain to it, that’s what was happening with Charlie’s reflux, he knew it would hurt and it was only when he was on top dose medication to get it controlled he started to get an appetite. but if your at a point where your having to syringe liquids in my opinion you need help, or he will end up dehydrated. I remember the 12hour nappy thing, nightmare..

if he’s vommiting that much too it needs getting to the bottom of quickly. I would be heading to a&e if it continues for a urine dip or if he gets unusually lethargic because I remember with Charlie they can get very ill very quickly with dehydration. Good luck , hoot he’s feeling well soon 💕💕💕

Is he drinking half his usual amount? You say he's lethargic, that's never a thing I'd ignore ... 1. Call the ward can they review him again. If not I would take him back to a&e.

However in the mean time have you tried different fluids other than milk, squash maybe or even better some diarrholyte sachets from the pharmacy?

Thank you for your advice guys, he ended up going to hospital via ambulance yesterday! He had a temp of 40.2 and was unresponsive they said he had a urine infection and tonsillitis but have sent him home after a couple hours observation! Also after a lot of arguments we managed to get a referral to a specialist about the reflux x

Poor thing!

At least he’s on the mend love. Great about the referral. Lucky you acted when you did hun.
