Hi luv2017. In a word, yes it can. It will fade eventually, but you could try and give her extra water to drink if she will take it in between feeds. Ideally diluted fruit juice is best, but she is a bit young for that. Hopefully he treatment sorted her jaundice out, or is it still there a little? Speak to GP if worried. Diane

Thanks so much , she had bit high level of bilirubin on her 2nd week and kept in phototherapy for 2 days and got discharged. She was fair and pink when she was born and lately her skin got so tanned . I am in India and you know the people here are so in to light skin and the questions they ask are irritating me. Then I realised she is changing so drastically because of phototherapy. Ya it’s too young for water and juice . It’s ok and I should learn to give back nicely to the people who speak about skin tone 😂😂😂

Hi. Bless her. Some babies are born with a very high haemoglobin level and the liver doesn't cope straight away while reducing it, so they get an over spill of bilirubin into their bloodstream causing the tan colour. She will be fine, just look very healthy for a while! When I was over in India many years ago for a seminar, the ladies hadn't met a white Caucasian female before, and were looking down my clothes to see if the colour went all the way down! They were super people and so kind. A place called Ludhiana in the Punjab. Diane

Yes I am blessed and thankful to god as she is healthy. Saw some horrifying scene in hospital with the other babies and I just can’t take how tiny babies are suffering. Aww Punjab you must have got good lassi which is sweet yogurt smoothie.i am from south India, state called Tamil Nadu. Ya Indians are so warm and welcoming our guests. Glad you had a good time .

Indeed I did, and still love lassi! xx

How is you baby now . Did she regain her complexion. Im having the same case with my baby boy he was extremely fair after birth and after 2 days of phototherapy he started becoming tanned day by day. He is 3 weeks old now. Please let me know if we do something to get his actual complexion back

luv2017 in reply toAks4frnz

Hey ya ,

Yes she got her colour back , she is now 13 months old . But still her body is bit tan , . Her face is changed so well . It will take few months. My daughter took 6 or 7 months to get her colour back as she was kept in phototherapy for longer .

He is one month old already an i cant see any changes yet n i hope he gains his complexion back soon.....u sure the tan from photo theraphy is not permanent i mean this complexion is temporary right in how many mnths did ur baby get back her complexion

luv2017 profile image
luv2017 in reply toHuzu

It will change and phototherapy tan will go away but it will take time and really really depends on the amount of tan, climate , place and etc .. I was religiously doing her massage ., home made body bath powder so it all helps to remove the tan quickly and that too it took 4 or 5 months to slightly go away .. so it will go but will take a months.. she is 16 month now and her face wAs completely changed to her birth colour but her body is slightly on tan side , like very very light tan

My daughter too had to go through phototherapy and has turned very dark .. she was born fair but had lot of facial hair so I’m not sure how fair was her complexion , overall looked whitish pink .. her hands , legs and body was fair but eventually turned very dark after giving her bath at home (4-5 days after phototherapy)

luv2017 in reply toAnudantera

Hey ya ,,

Phototherapy tan will go away . But it takes few months .. my little one was born fair and same like yours after phototherapy she became so dark , gradually she turned to her original complexion .. but I was in India until her 9 months so I was applying some homemade pack while bath and it helps to remove tan quickly . I can write a separate post including pictures if that helps ..

Hey please help , I have non identical twin daughters. My first born had higher bilirubin level so she went for phototherapy for 2 days. She was much fairer than second born until 1.5 month apart from some discoloration from phototherapy. Now at three months she has tanned so so much that she is looking very dark in front of my other baby. But I cud see that her diaper area, behind the ear and neck fold is very fair. I am wondering did u experience that your daughter changed her color to dark gradually after coming from phototherapy?

Hello Dear, My baby is now 44 days old and was kept under the UV light for 3 days beachside of higher Bilirubin and High RBC’s. She was pink and fair at the time of birth. How much time you Lo took to show the difference? Can you please share the formulae of the bath powder ? Also we are able to see some difference now but I guess we will need to wait this out till such time the entire body comes back to the birth colour. Is my understanding correct? Plz revert.

Hey ya,

Yes she started slowly changing colour after 6 months .. but again I was very constant with daily oil massage and home made body bath powder which I made from YouTube . You need lot of patience .. ignore all negativity.

Thanks

Hello luv2017Thanku so much for your revert. How’s your baby now?? We can see some shade light in the face but lower body is still dark. It seems body takes more time for recovery. For massage I was using coconut oil but it’s not suiting her. Which oil u were using??? Also request to share powder details link.

It’s a long way to go as u said and also I am trying hard to ignore negativity and be positive.

Thanku so much for for helping us by sharing your experience it really helps a lot.
