Belly button bleeding

Hi all, my son is 5 weeks old, I’ve just bathed him and his belly button has bled, any suggestions as to why??

I am going to get him checked out tomorrow at the gps

It might be a granuloma, my son has this. It’s just when the belly button doesn’t heal properly. It is not painful for them. They told me to keep it dry for two weeks and see if it healed on it’s own. If not they seal it with a silver nitrate pen and is a relatively painless procedure. We went back two weeks later and it had healed fine. Your GP will obvious give you the actual diagnosis tomorrow but it sounds the same as ours x

Thank you Bexicles, I just made sure it was dry after I bathed him. I will let you know what they say tomorrow xx

The doctor said she couldn’t see anything when she looked at his belly button but she did say it might be granuloma. And to keep an eye on it for now and if it bleeds again to take him back.
