I found out im pregnant yesterday. I think im roughly about 4 weeks pregnant. Rang the docs today to book an appointment and receptionist said I will get a call back with an appointment with the midwife. Which they did. My first appointment however is not till 19th Feb. Is it normal to wait this long.

It is normal to wait that long, depending on where you live and your age / health / pregnancy history. However, you can arrange an appointment to confirm your pregnancy and raise any concerns you might have esp if you are an older mother, this is your first pregnancy, you have a history of miscarriage or health problems. You can also pick up free vitamins (you need to be taking folic acid) and have the flu vaccine if you choose to. When you say you are 4 weeks is this dated from your last period or from conception? If from conception then you are actually 2 weeks further along and are 8 weeks pregnant as they count the age of your womb not the age of your embryo.

Thanks for answering. Just wanted to put my mind at ease as it is my first pregnancy. 4 weeks from conception. so will be 6 weeks pregnant from my last period. I have just started talking folic acid as luckily I knew to do that.

Normally they see you after your 8 weeks but it can vary.

I had a 1st appointment with midwife at 8 weeks, they took very basic details and lasted about 10 mins! Didn't really c the point in this appointment .

Had my official booking appointment today at 10+2 weeks , that appointment lasted about an hr asked loads of questions and filled my notes out and she has put a request in for my scan so should get my date for that in the post in the next few days. She said there normally done between 12- 14 weeks! I hope it's gona be more 12 than 14! I was gona get a private scan done but reasoned by the time they would have been able to get a good pic of baby I would only have to wait a couple more weeks so thought I'd save myself some money and just wait my turn but I hate waiting!

This is my 2nd pregnancy, I have a 3 yo and things are done a bit different from what I remember! Think it changes all the time and depends on the area your from.

Also tell them ur 6 weeks not 4 as this is how the drs etc will date you.

Good luck.

My first appointment with the midwife was at 10 weeks with this pregnancy. Then you do booking in bloods, form for scan medical history, etc. I got my scan in the post about 5 days later and went for scan at 12 weeks.
