So I am 2 days overdue now, had my first stretch and sweep today and the midwife explained that my cervix is still very high and not ready yet, she thinks it won’t be for another few days and so has booked in a second sweep for Thursday.
After this appointment today I have been really emotional. I just can’t stop crying! Anyone else had this before?
I know baby is healthy and I am blessed to have baby but after today I am just ridiculously hormonal and can’t stop. Advice welcome please ladies.

I don’t know how I managed it to be honest! I wasn’t too bad emotionally I was just getting stressed as I wanted her here to know she was safe and sound.
I had ivf so was worried something would go wrong going that overdue but everything turned out fine. Although labour was stressful but that was due to her being so big I think and everything has been fine post pregnancy too xx
Aw hun o do feel for you I had 3 sweeps and didn’t work and had to be induced on day 14 they said but I’m sure it was day 15 (over due ) I was 3cm at my last sweep but my little girl didn’t want to come out she was my 3rd baby which I thought would come earlier but also my cervix was quite high too with my second child and didn’t drop til labour which I had her at 39 weeks ! Have you tried eating great pineapple and raspberry leaf tea? I hope your little one comes soon the emotional side is normal it’s our hormones I had it with my last pregnancy! Hope it happens soon xx
I would carry on drinking it if you can and eat fresh pineapple it can help. I used evening primrose up the lady area too of an evening too to soften my cervix as that supposed to help !
I was pulling my hair out after the week passed and I was still carrying her she was my biggest baby at 8lb 11oz !! Xx
Wouldn't worry too much about baby ... it's annoying yes frustrating yes but as long as you can feel baby it's fine. I was over due 6 days with both of mine ... first had a sweep which I think helped (although was already having mild contractions); second couldn't have a sweep as baby wasn't engaged at 3 days over due! Try occupy yourself ... popcorn legs up and watch a new tv series that's a bit addicting 😅
I feel the same way, I’m 6 days over due and NO signs whatsoever of baby, midwife came yesterday to do sweep however couldn’t have it done as baby was not engaged!
I just cried after she left as I’m so frustrated and want to meet my little man and just had enough of being pregnant - so I can absolutely relate to how you are feeling!...
I’ve tried just about everything they tell you to do but nothing has worked I’m guessing baby will come when he wants if not I’m booked for my induction on Monday...
Is this your first? I was the same with second head bobbing in and out (quite common) but despite not being engaged on Friday appointment made her way by Sunday morning!
My second was engaged for about 3 and half weeks before he finally came. Cervix was too high for a sweep at 40 weeks as I begged for one as between hypermesis gravadium and severe spd I was so ready to not be pregnant I couldn't do anything was having to sleep.on sofa to avoid stairs too much as my hips couldn't take it. And even then he came 3 days later on his own
I had a widwife appointment at 40+1 and she said my little boy was still at the top of my pelvis and she didn’t offer a sweep, so I left and just tried not to stress about it even though it was hard as I was a FTM, I new he would come when he was ready. At 40+6 my waters broke at 9:30am and he arrived at 4:37pm really calm labour which I was very happy about as I worried about having a hard labour and hard time labouring because he didn’t want to make an appearance, but totally opposite it couldn’t of gone better, don’t worry it will happen when your ready just try stay calm and stress free and you will be meeting your little one very soon
I had the same she tried to do a sweep on me and cervix was to high to even reach to do it. 3 days later I went into labour
I was 10 days overdue when my little girl decided to arrive. I turned down the first sweep then was unable to attend the 2nd thanks to the ‘Beast from the East’ - my midwife was unable to get to my GP surgery. I took my dog for a walk in knee deep snow, drank raspberry leaf tea and bounced on my gym ball and finally my waters broke at 8pm. Unsure if any of those things worked as I think they will make an appearance when they are ready. Stay mobile & keep moving but don’t overdo it. Take care and all the very best!
I was 10 days overdue and my waters were broken which I regret as I ended up with a 3rd degree tear. I wish I panicked less and allowed nature to do its job.
Babies can be safely born until at least 42 weeks and in some countries (e.g france) 41 weeks is consistently full term rather than 40.
You only need to worry if baby stops moving or if you bleed. In which case you can contact your maternity unit.
