Hi, I recently found out I was pregnant, now around 10 weeks, and have seen my midwife, however, even though every bit of research I have done stipulates you are to have a 'dating scan' at around 9-14 weeks she said my first scan wouldn't be until around 20+ weeks. I'm EXTREMELY concerned as the dating scan seems rather important...has anyone else experienced this? It's the first pregnancy I'm keeping & feel confused. The midwife didn't even do a pregnancy test. I think I'm further along than they're guessing, but how on earth can I know without this important dating scan? Any advice?
Cheers, Eriee

They don't usually do a pregnancy test hun just a blood test and a urine sample.
I'd change midwives hun because you're meant to have a scan between 12 and 13 weeks as it's your dating scan. The 20 week scan is the anomaly scan where they do all the checks on baby to see if everything is fine but how can they give you a 20 week scan without knowing when you'll be 20 weeks? I'd either go back and see her, see tour gp or call the maternity centre and ask them xx
Did you ask the midwife why you're not having a 12 week scan? The 12 week scan is to assess baby's heart beat is present and check if it's a twin pregnancy the also check the thickness of the nuchal fold which can be a sign of some genetic syndromes. Apart from dating... that said you can still date the pregnancy from a 20 week scan.
However the 12 week scan is pretty standard... I personally would ask to speak to her midwife manager/head midwife about it rather than ask the gp as gps don't really deal with that sort of ante partum aspect
I'm in the U K...however the issue has now been resolved. It's because I've chosen a hospital out of my local area. A letter arrived yesterday from my chosen hospital so all is good!!
Thank you for all your replies, they've been really helpful!!
Anyone else struggling with giving up smoking? I'm using an e-cigarette but still want a tab noun again?
Nicotine is definitely not a good thing tho ... stimulant like caffeine so def worth trying stopping for good and trying to keep off. Cigarettes can increase problems like cot death and asthma significantly so would like to use this a s a turning point... then you can treat yourself or baby with all the money saved!
