Dating Scan

Hi,

I met with my midwife on 1st September (for bloods, to get my pregnancy pack etc-, we had already done the questionnaire on the Sunday). She referred me for my first scan on Sunday 30th August (whilst we spoke on the phone) and when I met her on the Tuesday she said as it had been a bank holiday my appointment wasn't yet showing but that I'd get it in the post. Fast forward 2 weeks and 4 days and I still haven't heard anything. Is this completely normal? It's my first child so I'm not sure how all of this works (you can probably tell haha). Just looking for a bit of advice! (I think I'm coming towards the end of week 10!).

Should I contact my midwife or hold off until mid next week?

Thank you in advance! X

Hi, I am not sure I got your dates right...the 30th to me looks a Wed. Anyway, I think it really depends where you live, I got my dating scan (the 12 week scan) app by post, after having spoken with my midwife over the phone when I was 8 weeks. I think the letter came through a week later I spoke with my midwife so I would call her again and ask. It might be just delayed or a different procedure based on your county. Normally, however, you get your dating scan app by post.

Sorry- that's me not being clear! It was the 30th August (I've just updated it!). I was expecting to hear after about a week. I think I'm just being really impatient haha. Maybe there is a delay and I should just hold off calling until next week!

Thank you for you reply :)

Post my first appointment with mid wife , I checked directly with antenatal clinic if my scan is booked and to my surprise it wasnt( midwife forgot to book) so eventually they booked it for me for 12week+5 . She did tell me to make sure I chase appointments , results and scans dates if im not sure or unheard about them. I would recommend to chase and make sure its booked..

I’d ring. I waited a week and hadn’t heard so I chased and “something” had gone wrong and id been missed. I was already 12 weeks at this point so getting a bit anxious. They got me in at 13 weeks. No one is going to mind you asking it’s been quite a while.

What a nightmare! Glad they then got you in quickly! I've just phoned my local family centre and was told I'd not hear anything until 12 weeks, which seems strange- but I'll leave it until the end of next week as a week on Monday will be 12 weeks.

That does sound weird to me. I rang the clinic itself and they told me over the phone and were quite happy to. Maybe an option. Good luck!

Personally I would chase it as the first scan needs to be held within a certain time frame, and 2.5 weeks is longer than it should normally take to schedule an appointment and post a letter. It is possible that there has been a communication error and so I'd just call and check to be on the safe side.

I've just called my local family centre, where I met my midwife and was told it was unlikely to hear anything before 12 weeks? Seems strange as I thought I'd be having the appointment in my 12th week. I'll chase it up again if I haven't heard anything after next week as then I'll be in my 12th week!

Make the call and insist on getting / clarifying the appt for the dating scan. You need to have it b/w 11 to 14 weeks.

Ahhh very exciting!! I think I'll be a similar date to you! Really glad it all went well ❤ xx

I was 10 weeks by the time the midwife ( someone hadn’t passed on my details when i called at 8 weeks) like you I did the questionnaire over the phone & met my midwife a day later for the blood tests etc which she couldn’t do as I have difficult veins 😬 I heard from maternity department 2 weeks after my initial appointment- my scan is tomorrow when I’ll be 12 weeks 4 days. I’d def chase it coz if you’re having screening tests needs to be done by 14 weeks. I hope you hear soon good luck xxx

Oh I'm so glad you got it sorted!! Enjoy seeing your baby for the first time today ❤

I phoned the family centre again and got a really helpful receptionist who called me back within 10mins after she had checked with my new midwife (apparently my previous one has moved on?!). Turns out my appointment is on Monday! So it's a good job I didn't listen to the last receptionist and wait until next week! Stress haha xxx

What terrible advice you were given, so glad you called! Scan went well it was scary as partners aren’t allowed to attend so relieved to see baby is well 😅 good luck with your scan on Monday☝🏻 xxx
