Night time loo trips

I’m so frustrated because I keep getting up in the night too go for a wee. I try not to drink anything past 6.pm sometimes it works. But its not the fact of getting up to wee it’s more because when I do get up I feel so sick I can’t get back to sleep. Not sure if it’s because I’m so bursting it makes me feel so sick. Getting up to wee is really making me and my partner extremely tired cuz when I do get up I need to eat straight away so my partner has to wake up too and cook my food. Any advice on how to cut down loo trips ?

Are you saying that your partner has to wake up in the middle of the night and cook for you? If you need to eat could you not have a bowl of cereal or keep some snack food by your bed? How many weeks are you?

Yea. Well just toast and tea. But I know he is slowly getting frustrated. It’s been like this for the last couple months. I’m 14 weeks

Why exactly can't you make tea & toast yourself rather than use your partner??

Well I feel so weak and dizzy when I get up as I have really low iron.

If you have low iron then its not a good idea to have tea a lot, as it stops absorption of iron from foods. I suppose your midwife knows about your low iron content and has given you iron tablets?

I'd also suggest avoiding tea! That'll just make you need to go more!

Banana by the bed, quick toast?. Do you have to have a full meal? I'd thinking having a big meal at night is likely to make u feel worse... however if that's the case keep some left overs from dinner and pop in the microwave.

I totally understand what you are going through as I’m similar.

I have never been one for drinking lots but since becoming pregnant I’ve been thirsty all the time. Everywhere I go, I have to carry a bottle of water but also be aware of the nearest toilet.

When I tried to cut back on drinking, I ended up with a lot of headaches due to being dehydrated so I try and drink as much as possible.

As for getting up for a wee during the night, I’ve accepted that it’s just part of pregnancy. I’m up 2-3 times a night. Sometimes I get back to sleep and other times I don’t so I read or check out this app until I feel like I could nod off again.

I always have a glass of water next to my bed as I do takes sips throughout the night. Likewise, if you’re hungry, definitely keep bananas or snacks by your bed. Hopefully, it won’t disturb your partner to much and may keep you going until it’s time to wake up.

I wish it was just 2 to 3 for me! It's honestly about 8! And I'm like you Pamanham, constantly thirsty!

in reply toKempton

Sometimes, I can’t seem to quench my thirst so am constantly drinking.

Whilst getting ready for bed I have to wee about 4 times before finally getting to into bed. I wish there was a solution but I don’t think there is. There’s just no more space left inside me for this little one to grow and my bladder is certainly feeling the squeeze 😩

Not long now! It's all preparation for getting up in the night for feeds I guess. Best of luck and hope baby comes soon.

in reply toKempton

Yes, that’s how I see it - the bodies way of prepping us ladies for night feeds. Good luck to you too.

I feel like I'm up half the night too! It's so hard. Not sure why your husband is up though. Can't you make your own toast? Or as others have suggested, have some sort of snacks by the bedside, Belvita biscuits or fruit?

Agree with what other ladies have said. Quite frankly think it’s ridiculous you let him get up to make you tea and toast!! Also, why have tea?? This is only gonna make you pee more! Is it decaf tea?

I no. But I feel absolutely sick when I get up i can’t move. It’s that bad. But I will keep snacks in my room from now on. Yea it’s more milk then tea. I just have a dip of the tea bag just for a little taste.

I feel we’ve lost a bit of common sense here Lovely. You also sound very lucky to have the husband you do! Mine would tell me to get stuffed! As mentioned tea prevents the absorbtion of iron and it’s also a diuretic . Therefore it’s a bad choice of drink. Take your iron tablets with orange juice as vitamin c promotes the absorbtion of iron. 2 loo trips in the night is perfectly normal and this will be nothing compared to when baby arrives. Getting your iron levels up so you have some energy and start to feel better should be your priority here. Look up iron rich foods on the internet so you can maximise your chances.

Dehydration in pregnancy is not good so I would stop avoiding fluids and drink lots of water. Plus iron tablets can cause constipation which will be exacerbated if you’re not getting the fluids you need. Having snacks and a drink by your bed for when you do wake will definitely be a relationship saver! Try ginger biscuits as the ginger is said to settle the stomach and help nausea.

Finally, when you are in your 30 something weeks and close to popping you’ll be desperate to pee all the time and then when you go there will be nothing there! Your bladder will be baby’s favourite toy! 😂 it’s a pain in the butt! I feel you might need to prepare yourself a bit for this.

Take care of yourself lovely x

Breakfast biscuits were my lift saver when I was pregnant, I was always hungry at 4am for some reason.

I don’t have any tips on how to stop the trips to the toilet though.

Good luck with your pregnancy

Frequent toilet trips is all part of been pregnant, I pretty much need to go every 3 hours I've worked out, It been like that since the start and I'm now 25 weeks.

As others have said, stop with the tea, it will prevent iron absorption and make you go to the toilet more. I found that fresh lemon and fresh ginger in warm water (with a tiny bit of honey for taste) helped hugely with sickness, I had it several times throughout the day. Ginger is a natural anti-emetic, vitamin C will help with your iron absorption.

If you’re waking hungry in the night avoid drinking tea that will make you need the toilet even more. If you’re only 14 weeks hate to break it to you but unfortunately it only gets worse in 26 wks and was up 5 times for the loo last night xxx

in reply toMayyybaaabaaay

I went about 5 times the other night I’m not even pregnant 😂

I too am anemic. I am on iron tablets. Drink plenty. Let your husband get his sleep, he is going to be more supportive if he is not tired and cranky. Get a water bottle and always have it with you. Being well hydrated helps with anemic symptoms and other pregnancy symptoms. Ritz crackers are my saving grace. I eat a few before I even sit up in bed! I’m 14 weeks also and have to pee 4 times through the night. It’s normal, it shows your hydrated. Feel free to message me if you need any help.
