Most women ovulate (release an egg) mid cycle so work out your average cycle length (start of 1 period to the start date ofor next period) you should ovulate around the mid point between the 2 dates.
Eggs survive up to 3 days so you are fertile for about 3 days after ovulation.
Sperm can live inside a woman for up to 7 days, so you can be fertile up to 10 days before ovulation.
Its incredibly hard to work out ovulation dates with being a Pcos sufferer as you dont actually know wether or not youre ovulating in the first place, as having a period doesn't necessarily mean your body is releasing an egg. Do you know which kind of pcos you have or the severity of it? The best way you'd be able to find out your cycle is by having blood tests done via your gp/hospital which you can ask for if you have concerns.
My personal experience was me and my partner were trying for a year before my doctor decided to send us for the blood test, as i too am a pcos patient, and then 5 days before my appt i took a hpt just to clarify we wasn't pregnant (as the hospital would have asked) but it came back positive.. (which was a huge surprise as we expected it to be negative) so in the end we never actually found out wether i was ovulating each month or not.
Good luck on your journey though.. i cross my fingers for you! and my best advice is to try and not stress about it. My theory for myself is that once i removed the pressure off myself, ie not focusing on becoming pregnant and just looking after myself mentally and physically, it happened naturally. Xx
