Just a quick one actually it might be a long one here goes. So I’m 23 weeks pregnant I’m quite aware of the process when finding out pregnant and seeing a midwife and getting scan etc. I’m just wondering if it different in different places of the country. Reason being a family member has been slept with a girl and then two weeks later she texts saying she was pregnant the girl wasn’t sure if she wanted the baby so went to the clinic for a termination, at the clinic had a scan by now she’s more than two weeks (roughly 6) but decided she couldn’t do the termination which is fine she is then saying she rang her gp straight away went for an app the same day and they’ve have told her a date for her 12 wk scan there and then but she hasn’t seen a midwife yet. Does this sound really dodgy to anyone else?

I would think she would have to see a midwife to do the booking in first doubt a Dr has time and hospitals send out the scan date.
GPsare not commissioned for ante natal midwives do that ... however some midwives will attend the practice and do a session there. so unless she's seen the midwife rather than gp... but even then I. Doubt they would give her a scan date there and then but you never know ....
If there are doubts about timing why doesn't your family member attend the 12 week scan and then he'll know the age of the baby (remember that the scan would estimate from last period so around 2 weeks more than the conception date - aka if baby is 12 weeks conception is around 10 weeks before).... if doubt still remains I don't think asking for a DNA test is unreasonable
Yeah this is what I’ve said. Unfortunately he’s unable to attend the scan date she has been given he works offshore so can’t just come back for it if that makes sense. Yeah she has said a DNA test is fine but I think he want to be involved during pregnancy and help out but obviously doesn’t want to because of the confusion xx
I got my scan date for my first pregnancy during my booking appointment with the Midwife (she rang the clinic during the appointment) BUT my booking appointment was at 8-9 weeks. The Midwife wouldn’t see me before 8 weeks and the doctors surgery told me they wouldn’t book me in with a doctor or nurse to confirm pregnancy etc unless I had cramps, bleeding etc. If she didn’t mention the word pregnancy then she perhaps did see a doctor but I can’t see how the doctor would book the scan. It might be a booking appointment that’s been arranged like gcw104 suggested. I know I was confused to begin with so it’s possible she is too.
