Overdue baby

Hi, my due date was yesterday and no sign of baby coming yet. My midwife said I won't be induced until I'm 42 weeks pregnant! Does anybody know what the guidelines are in other cities?

Hello! Congratulations on your baby! I was overdue as well, they said that they would induce at 42 weeks as well but the midwife offered a sweep before... I had the sweep at 40 weeks and 5 days, the baby was born with 41weeks+1 day...

What was the sweep like? Does it feel like a smear test?

Never had one but think is he same... she puts two fingers in and sweeps to try to induce the labour by separating the membrane between baby and womb... I had 3 sweeps... other thing they said it helps to provoke labour is having sex... you can always try...

I had the same ... Saw mw at 40+3 I think... Couldn't do a sweep as baby wasn't engaged booked in for induction for 42 weeks ... But baby came 40+6 exactly like my first. And I didn't feel any niggles or anything until the same day

Thanks. My baby's head is engaged. I've been offered a sweep at my next midwife appointment (40+5). I'm hoping ill go into labour soon!

With my first I was booked in at exactly 42 weeks for induction but second time day 12. Both times they ended up coming naturally, first at 42 weeks and second day 11 lol. We are offered a sweep at week 40 first time then 41 for any pregnancies after that.

Hi I was induced at 41+3 having had two sweeps one at 40 and one at 40+5 they induced early as I had severe spd! I wish they hadn’t it took 4 days for my son to come and I truest believe he would have come on day 42 even if they hadn’t induced. I know it’s hard to wait but baby’s come when they are ready and not before. Good luck you will be holding your baby very soon xxx

Basically put it is pain in your pubic region caused but the pubic bone beginning to separate early. The bones that have to separate to fit a baby out during birth sometimes start a little early.

You shouldn'tworry about being overdue. The date they give you when they measure your baby at 12 week scan is edd( estimated due date) 2weeks either way is alright. Usually if you don't have any medical issues they will wait until you are 42 weeks pregnant before inducing you.
