I've not had a c section myself but known several people who have. It really depends on the individual some people manage just fine some need a lot of help. You need to make sure you keep on top of pain relief and avoid constipation. The big down side to a c section is that since it's a tummy operation you can't drive for 6 weeks, so really if you can get some family help that would be the ideal!
I had one a week ago and honestly the procedure is fine. Mine was a scheduled c section so it was more relaxed. I found talking to friends who'd had one done really helped calm me. My recovery since has been fine - however, I found a trickle of blood from the wound and have been readmitted so they can fix it up. I'm not sure how this happened, still waiting for doctors to decide what to do. The hospital allowed me back in with my twins while I'm being looked after, which is a great help. Other than that hiccup though, it was all very straight forward. Just make sure you take all help offered - you cannot lift anything heavier than your baby during recovery and there is no strenuous exercise or driving allowed for 6 weeks. Make sure you're well organised for baby in your house - don't leave anything last minute to build or buy.
As Roxannacar says, the constipation can be a big thing afterwards and it can take days for a movement, all normal but does add to the discomfort a little and you could go from one extreme to the other! Pregnancy is just so glamorous!!
Best of luck, you'll be absolutely fine. Remember it is a routine procedure for the team doing the surgery.
