Hi,

I work with children and keep catching a cold, sore throat etc which makes me throw up more. Feeling really run down and horrid. I am trying to eat well, have lots of fruits and juices. I wanted to know if anyone else is going through the same thing or has any tips. I am 17+2

Oh dear!! How long have you worked with children? My mum has been a childminder for 26 years and she gets a cold once a year if that! Hopefully you will eventually build a really strong immunity against most viruses! :) look into Echinacea, see if you can take it when pregnant, it's supposed to be good at fighting colds (it's a herbal remedy) as for sickness, try mint tea. I always drink it when I have an upset tummy, luckily I didn't get morning sickness though!! Get plenty of rest!! The first few months are exhausting!! Xx

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon!

Sadly, I think it's that time of year where everyone is bound to pick up colds, etc. I've had a few cold-like symptoms (lots of sneezing, snuffly, etc) and tiredness (but I think that's still an on-going fatigue problem for me!)

Have you had a flu jab (I know that won't stop catching colds, but it's worth protecting yourself against the flu!)?

I think the best thing to do would be to speak to a doctor, who might be able to prescribe you something that will 'take the edge off', especially as it's making you throw up. Make sure you stay hydrated and eat little, but often to replenish any lost nutrients. If it's suitable to take during pregnancy, I used to swear by Berocca X

I've heard stuffy nose can be a symptom of pregnancy because your blood vessels swell up, maybe that's making your cold worse. My nose has been very stuffy and I've had a lot of throat mucus (sorry tmi) too which make me gag when I go into cold air or try to brush my teeth. I find sucking extra strong mints helps cut through it. Also inhaling over a cup of hot water with lemon. I've suffered with sinus issues in the past and they suggested nasal duching with salt water, but I thought that sounded too much like trying to drown!

Hi

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have had the flu job thankfully that will prevent me getting a flu. I've been teaching for 7 years now and I'm usually ok in the winter and only get a cold once or twice. But this time I've had it 3 times since becoming pregnant. My midwife did say in pregnancy immunity can be low and its expected at this time of the year so just assumed it was that. My morning sickness had calmed down but I think the cold n cough make me throw up. I will inquire about the herbal remedies. Thank you

Bex82 I feel exactly the same re mucus n it makes me gag too. Think I'm going to try steaming to clear out sinuses.

Thanks!
