I am BF and my LO has not been a poo now for 4 days and im starting to worry as I just read a post saying babies were pooing many times a day....my LO only ever went once a day at most and it is always soft / runny and yellow, She is also winging a lot and getting clingy, maybe wind? Is it normal?

Ah poor little girl, have you tried gentle tummy massage or do bicycle with her legs? We've never had the problem with constipation or the like so not too much help X

BF babies do poo a lot less than bottle fed babies as breast milk is easier for them to digest, and it does tend to be a bit like korma sauce..... Mine went for days too xx

Bf babies can go for up to 10 days without pooing without causing healthcare professionals concern. Breast milk contains so much good stuff your baby doesn't need to poo any bad stuff out! If your baby is uncomfortable though, massage is good - clockwise and downwards (hand over hand), bicycle legs and push legs upwards bending at the knee into the tummy. Ask your health visitor or if there is a breastfeeding cafe/group in your area go along and ask there, they will be lovely and supportive with all sorts of breastfeeding questions.

Babies that are exclusively breastfed can go upto 10 days without a poo for one simple reason - the breast milk is designed specifically for them so there's very little waste product to get rid of!

As long as you're still getting plenty of wet nappies and you're baby is feeding well then I wouldn't worry as this is perfectly normal.

My lo goes 7 days between pooping and it's because of what is said above they use all of the breast milk and there is little waste. Only be concerned if when they do poop that it's not running

Thanks so much ladies, Feel so relieved after reading all your replies,

My little one is always producing really wet nappies and her poo when she does go is runny mustard lol. This is the first time I have exclusively BF so this is all new to me.

Thanks, I am one happier mum this morning :-) xx

We are coming up to day 7 in our house with no poo! I'm enjoying it as I think I'm in for a shock when she's weaned!

You should probably get poo everyday in a BF baby up to 4-6 weeks (though not always), after that they can go a really long time with out. Wet nappies is always a good sign but if you are concerned why not ring the breastfeeding line for information 0300 330 0700.

My lo is 7 weeks 3 days and nappies are wet :-)

How old is your LO? It probably entirely normal, ESP if they are 10 weeks plus: my LO went through a 5 week phase if only pooing every 5-6 days. He then went through a few weeks of EVERY nappy being soiled (I know which I preferred ;-p)! We're now back to once a day!

So long as baby is happy and gaining weight, there is probably little to worry about. If worried, take her to see your HV x

My daughter only goes once every 5 days and I generally give her a couple of oz of juice which was recommended by the doctor she goes a couple of hours after the juice and its always a full one.

Hi, as everyone has said, normal for breastfed babies to poo less frequently after they are 4-6 weeks old, up to 7-10 days, although the most I have seen is 14 days and baby was fine. Provided baby otherwise well, feeding ok and plenty of wet nappies it's fine. Baby massage also good. Do be prepared for an explosion when LO does go! Wouldn't recommend giving a breastfed baby orange juice although do come across a lot of doctors who give this advice to parents.

still no poo and yes I am expecting an explosion when she does go. I am not worried as her nappies are wet and she is well in herself. Thanks for all the advice ladies xx
