Chicken and ham Sandwich paste...safe to eat? or is it considered a pate type food?

I'm a bit confused about whether I can eat this or not as I would love a chicken spread toastie/sandwich. Is it safe or do I need to avoid it? I forgot to ask at my midwife appointment

Not 100% sure but think should be ok - we told to avoid pate because generally contains liver, but a sandwich paste shouldn't contain liver so should be ok x

yeah I thought that. Might try some manufacturers websites to ask if safe

It's the liver in the pâté that's the reason you shouldn't eat it. Toxic for baby apparently so don't see a reason for you not to eat chicken and ham paste I missed pâté so much when I was pregnant! That and runny boiled egg! Xxx

Chicken paste is often made from all the bits that otherwise don't sell - often including liver... I personally wouldn't, but I hate paste and pâtés ;-p

thanks dr fluffy, ive asked shipphams/princes about the contents of their pastes to see if they are safe. There is so much conflicting reports online, some say go for it and others say no. I dont eat pates, i think they are horrible, but i do love a paste toastie

If in doubt chuck it out! (first rule of kitchen work!) or better still sell to someone else.

I thought the thing with Pâté was Listeria as well as they say not to eat even Vegetarian varieties.

I cannot imagine your Sandwich Paste has that in it but Liver quite possibly!
