Covid Vaccine vs. Brain Issues Question

sashaming1 profile image
16 Replies

My Neurologist questions if I should get the Covid vaccine due to my brain issues (I have had MS diagnosed in 1986, I received a brain injury in 2016, I had Gullain-Barre Syndrom in 2016 - yes, "I am an overachiever" I told my nurses, and they said "Stop it." Does anyone know of any concerns with these brain issues and getting the Covid vaccine?

I would be very interested in the results of this question, as I fit into this 'vein' as I have epilepsy JME since 1970, and at the moment am waiting for a Skull MRI from the effects of a double seizure in Jan. 2018. I was diagnosed with early dementia in 2017, BUT that could have been side effects of the medication I was taking at the time Fycompa for epilepsy? IF there is any issues about "brain issues and getting the Covid vaccine?" I would be VERY interested in results of this issue? I took my first jab of Astra Zeneca on 9th Feb. 2021, 2nd jab 27/04/2021, and am having serious issues from Jan. 2018, which have recently worsened, I did not realise that the covid jab would be an issue in my condition, so like Sashaming1 waiting for information on this issue!

One reply discussed the impact of getting a vaccine and Guillain-Barre.

Hi. Here's a link re MS:mssociety.org.uk/care-and-s...

Headway on 0808 800 2244 can advise regarding ABI, (I was fine to have mine.)

Here's a link for Gullain-Barre Syndrome: gaincharity.org.uk/covid-19/

Hope that helps. 🙂🌸

Hi sashaming1. I think it would be best to only work closely, first and foremost with your neurologist, but also in conjunction with all others responsible for your professional medical care. Between them, they can give the best and only opinion on what will or won't work for you as an individual.

Thanks, I also know, like you, that looking for experience-based knowledge from non-medical-professionals is one thing but its not professional advice. I have several different brain issues so that finding an answer may be difficult - but I'll look on the internet as you suggest. Thanks for your reply!

I am looking for advice, non-professional, like yourself, because of the pandemic, I am not getting answers from neurologists OR doctors! I did not realise that there was ANY issues about vaccines affecting the brain? I like yourself, have brain injuries, I have looked up the internet but HOPEFULLY will now be able to ask medical professionals maybe the 'light at the end of the tunnel' with the effects of the pandemic presumably lowering, I MIGHT be able to get some help for my various conditions after three long years? Good Luck! Sashaming1

Thanks. Good luck to you. I can't get an answer either. Maybe knowledge of the vaccines hasn't been tested to this degree yet. Not an issue for MS I understand. Small chance of an issue issue for Guillain-Barre I understand. Haven't heard anything about any issues with a brain injury.

Actually as far as I am concerned, I have had my jab, astra zeneca, so will have to report any side effects from that particular vaccine, which is now an ongoing story, I do NOT have any choice in the matter! As I said before Good Luck Sashaming 1 with your particular selection!👍👍
