Thank you for posting Wallowa, it has reminded me of when I lived in rural Hertfordshire many years ago. We used to have pheasants in the garden, the males were beautiful.🙂👍

They are, aren't they Rachmaninov! Quite exotic, and such colours!😊 Xxx

They rather overshadowed the females.

Quite often the case in the Bird and Animal Kingdom ,it seems to take a lot to impress us females! 😁

They are beautiful to look at but when they sit on your anemones and peck all the flower heads off, they are not so beautiful after all. 😬😂😂

Sorry to hear that springcross, is it particularly anemones?

Yes, I had some beauties growing in a tub all different colours, Anemone de Caen. I went out one morning (they had all opened flower the day before) and they were all gone and the foliage was flattened, large pheasant droppings around the garden revealed the suspect. It was the first time I had grown them and I haven't bothered since. xx

What a shame , so disappointing for you. The whole process of deciding what to grow, where to plant it, planting, taking care of, then waiting for the ‘fruits’ of your labour to flourish. I suppose you have to give in and accept when you’re beaten!😢Although I wish I had them in my garden now.

Yes, it really was disappointing. They were my mum's favourite flower so I grew them really in her memory. xx

Ah, that was a lovely thought. Is there any way of putting them where they would have some protection. You’ve probably already considered that though.

Yes I did consider that but it wasn't possible. xx

Where I live the trick is to plant things that survive our weird growing seasons (either 120 days OR 40 days - we can get frost any month of the year) AND figure out either what to plant that deer don't like to eat or rub on (or figure out how to protect them). One gets clever.

It brings to mind the saying ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ Wallowa. Glad you can find ways of dealing with the weather and the deer.🙂👍

Yes it is but it had picked all the flower heads off too just as they had opened for the first time. 😮 xx

You're very welcome 🙏

Oh Wallowa, you've surpassed yourself again with such a lovely drawing of a ring-necked pheasant!

in reply to

thank you! I'm trying to draw as many birds as I can so I can really "see" them. Yesterday I saw a Townsend's solitaire, so I have a rough sketch of that one in the works.

Shall wait patiently for that one Wallowa!
