A view of Albert bridge, built in 1870, Chelsea barracks was on the north side of the bridge and as you can se from the sign, the soldiers had to break step when crossing to protect the bridge from swaying.

Battersea park Peace Pagoda
The Peace Pagoda was presented to Londoners by the Venerable Nichidatsu Fuji (affectionately nicknamed βGurujiβ by his close friend Mahatma Gandhi) in 1984. Founder of the Japanese Buddhist movement, Nipponzan Myohoji, Guruji stated that 'Civilisation is not to kill human beings, not to destroy things, nor make war; civilisation is to hold mutual affection and to respect one another'. Following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he pledged to build pagodas worldwide as shrines to peace. The Battersea pagoda was constructed by nuns, monks and other followers of the Nipponzan Myohoji sect and was completed in 1985 just weeks after Guruji died at the grand old age of 100.

so your abode is revealed. Battersea is not Kensington (in London), nor Pimlico (tower blocks some are there), isn't it thw place with a power station and a famous kennel place made famous by Paul O'Grady? lived in nw of London, so know it quite well. I live in Liverpool, hence a specification of Kensington... The Park is peaceful sere ne, almost like our Sefton Park.mx
π€«π€«??? I live in Pimlico, which is a 10 minute walk across Chelsea Bridge to Battersea park and the other end of Battersea Parl is Albert bridge . Don't think you know the area well enough.
Once again thanks Bazzak, for sharing your superb knowledge of your home and our capital city and some really great pics! ππ
grt to know.very interesting. I have a vague idea, wld know to pinpoint on the map...quite an expert oon the tube system 20 yrs ago.I was an aupair, there in London, I can appreciate it now as I speak accented English my native Slovak. When I came up here north, was flabbergasted with the Scouse accent and used to watch Rab C. Nesbit and laugh with 10mins delay as I cldn't understand his broad Glaswiegen accent I am ok now.ONLY CANNOT replicate their letter U they don't say wonderful, but WUNDERFUL.Come up north and wld be educated on accents and don't start me on brummie's...different planet. ha ha ha.monikax he was far too late for The premier after John Major, Tony Blair, invaded based on dubious WEAPONS of mass destruction. SOUNDS LIKE ME ha ha ha.
no contesst.Liverpudlians total strangers can talk to you, ad vise you, wldn't go south ever, such generous people I never met. Londone:(rs, you excluded, wet noses, nobody speaks to you, insular, foreigners all, no time to breathe. worse lot I never met. plus rather negative memories, met a Scottish nanny a breath of fresh air, otherwise rubbish, kids I never saw so naughty crap, sk wld NEVER ALLOW SUCH BEHAVIOR.despite religious people, wont go into different nationalities, no probs with colour, creed, differnt mentalities, food.put it this way wldn't allow anybody TREATING ME LIKE IMBECILE now at 44. then I was 19.
Yes but Batman has super powers. I suppose that's me next to him is it? Btw you missed a good opportunity for a response when I said they don't sell that rubbish ππ
Sorry but I had a notification and it brought me in this post and I ended reading and saw this I cannot resist now Maria you know you want to give him these so you can stare at him in them in amazement or shock horror lol πππi remember my reply to that set it all off I set the grey pixie looks like it's bursting out π€―π
Great pictures. Been to London a few times over the years, but only really seen the main sites. There are so many hidden gems we don't know about. thank you for showing them to us.π
Hi, Just letting you know how much I enjoy your photos and information accompanying them. Very often they encourage me to find out more. As a result I can spend a further half hour or more researching a person or place and thoroughly enjoying it. A great way of filling time too. Thanks Bazz. I always look forward to your posts.Chrys x
Thankyou Chrys, pleased you enjoy them, I was going to find the tomb of John Tradescant who died in 1638 today. He was a famous gardener and collector of plants and had a interesting life, the tradescantia was named in his honour. Unfortunately the churchyard, by Lambeth Palace is now the Garden Museum and is closed due to lockdown, so another time. ππxx
Thank you for sharing your great photos. Battersea Park and the pagoda is probably my favourite place, near me, though may be trumped by Richmond Park and the deer. Brings back some wonderful memories of living in Pimlico in my twenties. Although it's still not far away, I don't know why I don't go down there more often. So you have given me a little nudge... hope you are keeping well.
