Quotation for Sunday 5th July 2020

Good morning everyone.

This Sunday morning has dawned in a windy but bright way and from my window I'm enjoying watching some interesting cloud formations scudding across the sky.

Sitting quietly brought personal peace to me and I thought I'd try to share a little of that with you today.

So I've chosen another old Irish blessing which several well-known composers have set to music.

Its theme, being very old and Irish, is Christian, so I've altered it slightly to be inclusive of our many beliefs as a community:

"Deep peace of the running wave to you

Deep peace of the flowing air to you

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you

Deep peace of the shining stars to you

Deep peace of the gentle night to you

Moon and stars pour their healing light on you."

I'll include a link to a choral version of this if you'd like to hear the whole thing. Please remember to click not on the central button which appears but on the white title at the top left hand of the video, or it may not play.

This is a version set to music by Karl Jenkins, the amazing Welsh instrumentalist and composer.

Great choice, i love this, beautiful words and intent

Karl Jenkins is fantastic, i have sung for him and have to, say he lumbers in, pauses, raises his baton, and then its electric.

Sang some pieces from the Armed Man, Mass for Peace at the last concert i took part in. No idea when we will sing again,

My mam in law lived in Margam Port Talbot, and I used to go to the tiny round chapel there for service when a visiting minister with a portable harmonium would give out the hymn numbers, i think there were about 7 of us, we would start to sing with gusto, but then he would be playing another tune, not what we were singing. It was lovely, so good humoured and honest.

Great days...

Hi Sops, How wonderful! I'm a huge admirer of Karl Jenkins so to have done what you have makes me deeply envious!

I did smile at your tale of services in your little chapel in Margam. (I've just brought up some pictures of it online, and it's charming.) Those are the best of times and a tiny group of worshippers can sometimes harness the power of prayer and song even more than a big anonymous cathedral full of people, because, as you say, it's very honest and good humoured. Take care and have a great day.πŸ™

I will thank you. Woke up to sunshine today which has truly lifted my spirits.

When my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer 12 years ago, being a true Welshman, we drove that day to St Davids for solace and guidance, the sun shone then, it was mid week, so quiet and i will never forget that time we sat together, he died not many weeks after that, but i had gained some inner strength.

Hi again Sops,How good to have a powerful memory to hold on to, of what must otherwise have been an incredibly tough time. To hear that you have gained inner strength from it over the years is lovely. πŸ™
